    About

    Blending colors in perfect chaos

As a teenager I came across one of my dad’s books; it was about Chaos Theory by James Gleick. What I took away from the book is the interconnection between nature and science, and a new appreciation of nature’s unpredictability. As my dyeing technique evolved over the last three years I began to see more and more of that chaos theory emerge. Using the low immersion dyeing technique I apply dye in small scale randomness to present large scale, visually pleasing patterns. This is what makes my yarns unique, and easily distinguishable, and are guaranteed to keep you guessing until the last bind off stitch to discover the full spectrum of color in your skein.

My passion for dyeing comes through in my double dipped and low immersion scatter-dyed colorways. Inspired by the great masters of impressionism we seek to create a new, fresh, and original way of looking at hand dyed yarns.

I employ different hand painting and dyeing techniques, and I favor bright, bold saturated colors, although as I evolve as a fiber artist, my aesthetic keeps changing. Right now my yarn collection features golds, vibrant greens and calming browns, the collection was inspired by the landscape of the Pacific Northwest. Another source of inspiration is my never-ending curiosity; this is where my engineering background shines through as I see dyeing as big science experiment. One of my favorite moments is to watch the yarn soak up the dye at various strengths, the other favorite moment is to take the freshly dried yarn to a big window and explore the color variation.

I dye my yarn in colors that I hope will make people happy. Bubblegum pink meets its match with rich teal and Earthy sepia in my variegated colorway Phoebe. Esmeralda is a rich blend of greens, with a smattering of cobalt and a tease of sunshine. And Discotheque is a medley of green, blues, reds and golds--all the joy of the rainbow, but with a rock-and-roll, grown-up edge. I sometimes sell my work as sets of several complementary skeins to allow knitters and crocheters extra creative freedom.

Everyone defines pooling differently. In general I think of pooling as a blob of the same color in an otherwise somewhat random color distribution. For example three of more stitches of red bunched on top of each other across three or more rows.
I make every effort to avoid bunching of colors, and employ various techniques to prevent the same color from appear over and over again in the same spot on the next row of your garment. But sometimes it is beyond my control as the way the yarn was dyed is a major factor in pooling.

Your complete satisfaction is my highest priority. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions, issues or concerns.
    Store feedback is always appreciated!
