Quality pads. I do with they would fold up a little easier, though.

Q: How can I tell what absorbency my pads are?

A: Check the white snap cap on your pads.

Q: How do I care for my pads?

A: There are a couple of different methods of caring for your cloth pads. One is Dry Storage ~ Simply rinse the pad in cold water to prevent stains from setting and toss into a wetbag, diaper pail or laundry pail until you are ready to wash. The other is Wet Storage ~ Place your soiled pad into a covered container that is filled halfway with water. Change the water daily ~ some use it to water plants. That’s it until you are ready to wash.

When you wash your pads they may be washed with your regular laundry ~ or separately if you prefer ~ machine wash and tumble dry warm. Easy as that! Do not use bleach as this will break down the fibers of your pads and eventually cause them to deteriorate. If you are concerned about stains, Oxy Clean or Oxy Boost are safe to use. Drying your pads on the line or laying them in a sunny window will also help to remove stains. Fabric softener and dryer sheets are also not recommended. These will actually reduce the absorbency of your pads.

Q: How many pads will I need?

A: That really is up to each individual person. It depends upon how heavy your flow is and how long it lasts, how often you plan on washing and how often you like to change your pads. I recommend starting off with about 8 and a couple overnight pads. From that point you should be able to judge how many more you would like to have. Pads are addicting ~ you will find yourself picking up a couple here and there to add to your stash :) so don't feel that you need to invest in 20 right away. Build your collection up slowly ~ this will give you an opportunity to find what style works best for you.

Q: Why should I use cloth pads?

A: There are many reasons to use cloth pads ~ health, environmental, money, convenience, comfort, and they are fun!

Disposable pads and tampons are bleached to give them that white/sanitary appearance. The bleaching process is done with chemicals ~ the whiter they are the more chemicals have been used. As a result, disposable menstrual products off gas Dioxin ~ a chemical that is known to be toxic to humans and has been known to cause birth defects, cancer, ulcers in the skin and other issues.

Many women find that after they switch to cloth their periods become lighter and/or shorter and some experience less cramping!

The average woman will use 16,800 pads or tampons in her lifetime.

The National Women's Health Network, estimate that in the United States alone, over 12 billion pads and 7 billion tampons are used once and disposed of every year. They take a very long time to break down and release toxic chemicals into the earth.

Cloth pads = Savings:

The money you save using cloth pads will be worth it in the first year alone! Figure you spend $8/month on pads and another $6/month on tampons ~ that is $14/month or $168 a year! You could buy over 20 cloth pads for that amount...and still have them to use for another 4-6 years! That is a savings of $672-1008! I know that I have better things to spend my money on ;)

You never need to run to the store because you ran out ~ which always seems to happen in the middle of the night, lol.

Comfort and Fun:

Yes, cloth pads are very comfortable. Cloth pads are made with soft, breathable fabrics that aren't stiff or hot like some disposables are. And they don't crinkle when you walk. Then bend and shape to your body, allow air to circulate and are made with beautiful fabrics such as silky bamboo, t-shirt soft cotton, and sustainable hemp.
