Announcement
February 2023: it's the busiest time of the year for us, but we're starting to get caught up. Thanks for your patience! As announced on Instagram, we've updated yarn bases available and have retired a few older ones. Prices have gone up a very small amount due to increasing shipping rates and cost of materials going up quite a lot.
A full list of our yarn bases is available here: https://bluebarnfiber.com/pages/our-yarn-bases and is also on each dyed-to-order listing if you expand the description to read the full details.
Thank you for supporting our shop! I'm a special needs mom to the most amazing 3 year old in the world (dup15q) and your support allows me to stay home with her full time.
Follow us on Instagram for updates at www.instagram.com/bluebarnfiber
Dyed to order yarn takes about a week to ship, but larger order can take longer. As always, please let us know if you're in a rush to get your order so we can try to prioritize it.
COVID: We are taking all of the necessary precautions to keep you safe, and we'll be continuing to work like normal despite the pandemic. We hope you all stay safe and healthy!
Due to international delays, we are temporarily restricting some sales to North America customers only. Whole we're still willing to ship internationally, we will only accept international orders if the customer agrees that we are not responsible for lost or delayed packages.

Our dogs Foggy and Rainy. Many of our yarn bases are named after our old pets that have crossed the rainbow bridge.

"Miss Belle." She was born with 2 extra copies of part of her 15th chromosome. She's a little ray of sunshine.

I am an artist of all mediums. Obviously fiber, but I also paint, sculpt, throw pottery, and more!

The joy of our lives! Mirabelle is our miracle baby, born in 2019. She's extra special and has Dup15q.
Indie dyed yarn and fiber in a wide variety of styles and colors. Everything we offer can be customized! Dyed with love.
As life long animal lovers, my husband and I dreamed up a business that would allow us to help animals, support environmentally friendly products, and allow me to express my artistic creativity. Blue Barn Fiber is the product of that dream.
I was an Environmental Science major in college, and I got the opportunity to delve deep into the textile and agriculture industry. I was taken aback by how terrible so many textiles are for the environment, and I was impressed by how truly eco-friendly wool is. This new love of wool opened up a whole new world for us, and we were hooked on all things fiber related.
Our business has grown and changed a lot over the years. I now use my love for art to hand dye yarn, which I often paint with a paint brush. I am very sensitive to scratchy wool, so I make sure we only offer the softest yarn possible. I'm also picky about where I buy yarn from - we do not buy wool from shepherds who practice mulescing, as it is cruel to the sheep (while shearing is not only harmless, but necessary for the health of the sheep).
More about our family: in 2019 I finally had my miracle baby (after trying for 11 years) and we named her Mirabelle. She is the most amazing and special human we know. Mirabelle was born with a very rare condition resulting from a duplication and triplication (which is almost unheard of) portion of her 15th chromosome. She is developmentally delayed and non-verbal, and life can sometimes be a challenge for us all. I stay home and care for her full time while working when she's asleep (or watching cartoons!). She is the light of our lives and I'm so grateful that I get to be her mom. We really appreciate each and every customer, as your business allows me to stay home with Mirabelle the way that I need to.

Care instructions
We recommend hand washing all dyed fiber and yarn in cool water.
Although our colors are wash fast and treated with special dye fixative, hot water can sever the chemical bond between dye molecule and fiber, causing bleeding. Cool water will help prevent this from happening.
Wash-fast colors can sometimes have small amounts of excess color run off in the first couple of washings (especially blue colors or deep reds and pinks), so be careful when blocking your yarn for the first time. We only recommend using a mild, neutral soap such that is unscented.

When will my order ship?
Most orders for dyed to order yarn will ship within 3-5 days, but large yarn orders can take a bit longer to ship. This is also impacted by how busy we are, so I allow myself up to 10 days to be safe. We can often send smaller orders sooner. Unless a product is marked "ready to ship," it is custom dyed to order. We'll keep your order updated with a new ship-by date if we expect delays and message you.
Please let us know if you are in a rush to receive your order, and we'll do our very best to get it made quickly for you.
Custom and personalized orders
Because most of our fiber and yarn is dyed to order, we are happy to customize it to fit your needs! Love a colorway, but want to see an extra color added to it? No problem! Just let us know. We also often have more yarn bases on hand than what you see as the default options, so contact us if you want to see something specific.
We also have a wide variety of fiber bases that we can choose from, aside from the default fiber choice in each listing.
Corona Virus Shipping policy
Shipping outside of the USA: We have been experiencing unprecedented delays with our international shipments and have had to refund several hundred dollars due to customs delays/lost items. We are sadly needing to temporarily close international shipments outside of North America and hope to turn them back on once things get better.
We know that times are scary right now with the threat of the COVID19. We want to assure all of our customers that we are taking all necessary precautions to keep you safe, and we will continue to work unless we get sick or come into contact with someone who is sick. I am in self-isolation at home with the baby and am confident that all orders you get from us will be safe for you to handle.
How to Use Our Yarn
By default, our yarn comes to you as a twisted skein. If you aren't purchasing ball winding (listed in our shop), you must wind the yarn into a ball yourself before using it.
**Don't skip these steps.**
To do this: Untwist the skein. You'll have a hoop. Find the ties, make sure the yarn is within the ties and there are no stray strands outside of them. There are always at least two ties per skein.
Place the yarn on a swift (the back of a chair, your knees, etc would also work but a swift is the best). Cut the ties, find one of the ends that was tied.
You can pull on an end once all of the ties are cut and the yarn is correctly sitting on the swift. You'll want to use a ball winder or ball it by hand. See YouTube if you need help.
