Just adore this sweet little necklace made with rare Mardi Gras beads, the sort I caught, played with, & wore as a little one! Packaging a work of art in itself, with an original painting I'll definitely display.

it looks great in my hallway! I used a 12"x12" "floating" album frame to display the print. Perfection.

About

Joyful Art from South Louisiana

The collections in my shop are inspired by joyful people, and the moments, places and objects unique to South Louisiana. Mardi Gras celebrations, bayou adventures, swamp explorations, the magic of New Orleans, festivals, creative souls and spirituality motivate my creations.

Life in South Louisiana can cause one to be overtly aware of the dualistic nature of life: our elaborate, joyful celebrations and customs are matched with equally intense environmental instability and deep-rooted systems of injustice.

In response to this, I choose materials and design pieces that are environmentally conscious (natural, locally-sourced, re-purposed and recyclable).

Through this work, I aim to share the joy of life in South Louisiana and inspire increased awareness of the environmental and social struggles we're facing here.

When you buy from me....

Not only are you purchasing a unique, hand-made piece of art and history, you are supporting a working artist and educator in New Orleans! For me, creating art, particularly pieces that require repetition and small details, is meditation. In addition to working part time as a freelance video producer and editor, I'm a Family Yoga / Art Instructor and Guest Educator through EnrichED Schools in the Orleans Parish Public School System. Working in the schools in New Orleans is as rewarding as it is challenging. Many of the children I teach are considered to be “at-risk” (their lives are greatly impacted by poverty, violence, drugs, etc.) and the schools do their best to provide them with quality educational experiences, healthy meals and a safe environment. I’m always working on enhancing my teaching practice and my students’ experiences, so the majority of the sales from my artwork go into purchasing the supplies, materials and healthy snacks that I use in the classroom (and the rest goes towards expendable supplies and some materials for artwork!).

***My shop opened in 2008 as "Bluebird Art", then after a couple years hiatus, re-opened/ re-imagined in February 2016 as Louisiana Joy**
