Announcement   Thanks for visiting my shop!

My works are original relief prints, hand-carved from either linoleum or woodblock to produce a raised “relief” matrix that I ink and print onto archival printmaking paper on a table-top etching press. None of my prints are digitally reproduced and each print takes several hours to complete. As is the character of relief printmaking, slight variations will occur from print to print.

My shop has been sleeping for well over a year while my husband and I traveled through North America in a truck camper. The journey inspired lots of new work but for now I hope you enjoy the cards I'm selling, culled from some of my older work.

If you have any questions about my work or process, feel free to convo me.

About

Blue Chisel Prints - The Work

I work on my prints in two separate spaces. First, in the attic, as close to the sky as I can get, where I draw, sketch, develop ideas, and carve my blocks. Second, I print in my basement studio. I like to think that my ideas can fly in the attic and are grounded in the basement.

I make my relief prints in one of two ways:

1. Reduction (my preferred method):
One or two blocks are continuously carved away, or “reduced”, as each colour that makes up the image is printed. This method is said to have been developed by Picasso. Once the print is complete there is very little left of the original block.

2. Hand-tinted:
The image is printed in black ink and then hand-tinted in water colour.
