Making beautiful fabric flowers for bridal or fashion accessories

For many years while I worked in big companies in Research and Development, I really wanted the freedom to be more creative and 'hands-on'. I did love my jobs in R&D, and always kept art and textiles as a hobby - but never really got enough time to indulge in them. Then came my daughter by surprise, so with the natural career break, I decided to properly put it on hold until my daughter is a little older, and concentrate instead on doing something totally different.

I love creating new pieces using fabrics and other textile materials. The process generally starts with selecting suitable fabrics - based in their colour, composition, texture etc., and ends with carefully stitching each handmade flower onto a base - whether that is a hair comb, a headband, a stem, a sash, and the list is endless. In between, there is cutting of shapes for the petals, singeing them (or finishing the edges otherwise), twisting, turning, layering, stitching, beading, and lots of patience!

The shop is called Blue Lily Magnolia because it is the Chinese name of my mum who is sadly no longer with us. It is also the middle name of my daughter. As I made fabric flowers, a floral name sounded just perfect.

I work from my studio in Nantwich, a little town in the county of Cheshire in the United Kingdom. Plenty of beautiful gardens and countryside nearby to take inspiration from!

I hope that you have enjoyed viewing the pieces that are on offer. All items listed are either ready to go (specified in the listing) or shown as examples of designs. For items made to order with your chosen colour palette, samples of material options are available to view online or by post (with a small postage fee if you are outside of the UK).

You can be as involved as you want in the design of a custom-made item - from the overall design, selecting flower types. choosing the materials that match your colour palette, approving the swatches, viewing mock ups, and reviewing progress. Or you can just decide you like the look of the items on show and want a similar one. Either way works for me.

Returns and exchange details
I hope that you will be happy with your order and that your item is as you expect. Note that for items made to order, there are slight variations between products as everything is hand-made so will never be identical. If you need to return your purchase for any reason, the following applies:

Ready-to-Go items and Items Made to Order to a Listed Design:
If you are unhappy with your item, please let me know within 14 days that you wish to return it, and please return it unused and in its original condition within 21 days from delivery. A full refund of the original payment and postage will be provided upon receipt of the item. The sender is responsible for the return postage and providing proof of postage.

If your item is in anyway damaged when you receive it, please contact me within 14 days of receiving the item with photographic evidence and send me back the item within 21 days, so that I can pursue a claim with the courier. Please arrange for payment of the postage, ensuring you have proof of postage and receipt. Your original payment and postage, and return postage will be refunded upon receipt of the damaged item and a receipt for postage.

If your item is loss in the post, you will be offered the choice of a full refund of the item and postage, or a replacement item. Please note that for postage to outside of the UK may be significantly delayed at customs, and therefore may not be considered lost for several weeks.

Custom-Made Items:
This section is applicable for items that are totally custom-made to a final design not listed in the shop, or made to a listed design but in a colour and/or size specified by you (for examples all the personalised belts). Custom-made items are unfortunately not refundable, unless they are received faulty or damaged. If this is the case, please contact me within 14 days of receiving the item with photographic evidence and send me back the item within 21 days, so that I can pursue a claim with the courier. The sender is responsible for the return postage, providing proof of postage and keeping a receipt for the postage refund. Your original payment and postage, and return postage will be refunded upon receipt of the damaged item and a receipt for postage.

For refunds of deposits, please refer to the Payment Policy.
For ready made items and items made to order to a listed design, payment is required with the order. I accept most credit cards and PayPal.

For large custom-designs and custom-made orders, a deposit may be required to confirm your order with the balance payable upon completion of the work.
The deposit amount varies with the order type and is between 10-50% of the total.

The deposit is used to purchase the raw materials needed for the item ordered, and is also used as payment to start the work. I understand that in some cases customers may want to change their mind or cancel an order. In these instances, I regret that if money and time has already been spent by the time the cancellation is made, the deposit is non-refundable. I recommend that you contact me as quickly as possible if you are thinking of cancelling a custom order, so that I can stop any expenses towards the work. In good faith, if I have not yet purchased raw materials, or started any work, I will reimburse the deposit. Likewise, if I have only purchased material and not started any work, I will reimburse part of the deposit, deducting my expenses.

Throughout the process I like to keep the customer updated with photos of work in progress, so should there be any concern, I would encourage the customer to let me know sooner rather than later.

For cancellations made up to 1week (7 calendar days) before the due completion date, the remaining balance will also be required, as by this time most of the work would be completed and most custom orders cannot be resold. For cancellations made 8-21 calendar days before the completion, 50% of the balance will be due. For cancellations made 22days and sooner, 25% of the balance will be required.
For each item, please check the dispatch time on each listing details.

Your item will be delivered by Royal Mail or Parcel Force in the UK and where specified only, recorded delivery. For international deliveries, items are sent either by standard mail or by tracked deliveries. If your item is not specified to be recorded/tracked but you would prefer it to be, please either purchase a shipping upgrade where offered, or send me a message for a separate quote.

When your item is dispatched, I will send you a dispatched confirmation, with a tracking number where available, and the courier used.

If your are purchasing from outside the UK, please note that postage timelines are generally 5-10 working days from the dispatched date, and in some circumstances can take longer. For all tracked /recorded deliveries, I will provide tracking details so that we both know where the item is.

Certain countries will require customs payment for receipt of the items. This is the responsibility of the buyer.

If I have not provided an option for delivery outside of the UK, please contact me with your location so that I can provide a quote.
Additional policies and FAQs
For custom orders, please send me a custom order request from the shop page. Once received, we can discuss the requirements at no cost. I will then make a quote based on your request.

Work will only start upon both parties agreeing the details and payment.

Can I request an item listed in a different colour or finish?
Yes, please get in touch, and if it is possible I will gladly make it to your requirements. A design which has been modified is then considered custom-made and will not be returnable unless faulty or damaged upon receipt.

Do you make belts in different widths to the ones listed in the shop?
Yes, I can make belts wider or slightly narrower, however, the wider belts do not have the same stiffness. They are stiffened to some degree but are foldable and floppy. However, the effect when worn is not widely different.

Can I return a belt made to my measurement?
Any item made to your own measurement is considered custom-made and unfortunately cannot be returned unless faulty or damaged upon receipt.

Can you make things faster than what is listed in the shop?
Yes, please get in touch and if I am able to prioritise your order then I can get it out to you faster. See postage question below for additional ways of speeding up your order.

Can I request for faster postage?
UK deliveries: Yes, please get in touch and with an additional cost, I can send items either First Class or Special Next Day delivery.
Overseas deliveries: I normally do not offer express deliveries for overseas deliveries because of potential delays that are outside of our controls (e.g. transit delays, custom delays). However, if you are willing to accept the courier risks, I am happy to arrange for a special overseas courier delivery at an additional cost.
Information I Collect
To fulfil your order, you must provide me with certain information (which you authorised Etsy to provide to me), such as your name, email address, postal address, payment information, and the details of the product that you’re ordering. You may also choose to provide me with additional personal information (for a custom order, for example), if you contact me directly.

Information Sharing and Disclosure
Information about my customers is important to my business. I share your personal information for very limited reasons and in limited circumstances, as follows:

I may store and process your information through third-party hosting services in the US and other jurisdictions. Sizing details

For made to order belts, please supply me with your waist measurement. This should be taken with a tape measure, placed at the waistline, while you are wearing the dress or other item of clothing you intend to wear with the belt. The tape should be kept at parallel to the floor as possible, and measurement taken while standing up.

Care instructions

Belts and sashes can be gently handwashed with mild detergent and rinsed with water. Please do not scrub and avoid touching the fabric petals if there are any.
