Announcement    I share my hand made pottery that is both decorative and functional hoping that it will be used often and will bring joy , a smile and a little bit of beauty to the user.

I hope you enjoy viewing my pottery. All of this pottery, porcelain or stoneware, is individually thrown, carved, altered and glazed by me. I fire my pottery in a gas kiln, in a reduction atmosphere to approximately 2200 degrees. The colors in the celadon, blue mist, burgundy red, blue-green and golden glazes that I use in my pottery are influenced largely by the reduction process.

GLAZES
My porcelain "painted" pots are made using using ceramic materials called stains and mixed with ingredients that make them "paintable". The design on every piece is individually created, one brush stroke at a time. Each porcelain piece is then covered with a clear glaze to preserve the design and make it food, oven, microwave and dishwasher safe. Many of my pieces take hours to complete.
With stoneware, I particularly like to use glazes that have a lot of depth and variety. Many of them provide variations based on temperature, where the piece is in the kiln, amount of reduction and thickness of the glaze. Consequently, no two pieces of pottery are exactly the same.

FUNCTIONAL
Each piece of pottery is food, oven, dishwasher, microwave safe and lead-free. If you have any questions regarding this pottery, please feel free to contact me.

SPECIAL REQUESTS
If you would like something specific and don't see it here, please let me know and I will post other pieces of pottery that you might find interesting. You can also make specific requests. I love a challenge. However, special requests should be made well in advance because the process of throwing, bisquing, glazing and firing a piece takes me at least 6-8 weeks depending upon where I am in the cycle when you make your request.

I'll never run out of fun techniques to try with clay!

From the time started working with clay and my professor let me sneak into the pottery studio during the summer months until the present, 18 years later, I have not once been bored working in clay. For the first several years I worked at the local college, thinking I'd eventually get bored and move on to other things. Didn't happen. After several years I was able to set up studio in my house with a propane kiln in my back yard that offers 18 cubic feet of stacking space. To fill my kiln with mugs it would take 200 to 250 pieces.
I work in porcelain and stoneware because I like both and have never been able to decide on just one type of clay or technique. Each clay type takes different firing routines so I alternate firings...first a kiln load of porcelain and then one of stoneware. And I use different techniques with each type of clay/firing. For example, on my Etsy site in porcelain you'll see hand painted or carved and altered pots with Celadons or glazes that run. In stoneware, I do more functional pieces and pots with glazes that run, blend or are effected significantly by the reduction process.
Because I love to try new techniques, my studio can best be described as organized chaos. With that warning, I've attached some pictures of my kiln and my studio area. On my Etsy site, you will see a great diversity, so check back often.
