Hey everyone, what unsteady times we are living through at the moment.

I just want to let you know that while I will be sticking to my usual processing times (the time it takes me to make your item). Shipping times will be longer than usual (quite a bit longer in some cases) as postal systems and customs Agencies across the world, quite rightly put in extra measures to help staff who are handling our post to stay safe during this global pandemic.

I know that all of my lovely customers will understand this and really hope that you're are all staying safe and well

Big love

Michaela

Hi, I’m Michaela, of Blue Stiggy, I make eco conscious notebooks and journals, which are hand painted, hand stitched and personalised on my vintage typewriter (her name is Dorothy)

--- N e e d l e --- T h r e a d --- P a t i e n c e ---

All of my books are individually hand painted and stitched by me and made with recycled and eco conscious materials.

I’m completely in love with the handmade cotton rag paper used in all of my notebooks, because it uses waste from the textile industry. I especially love how it feels. It’s a beautifully textured strong paper.

My studio companion is Dorothy, my 1950’s Baby Hermes typewriter. She works very hard, typing your personalised messages and quotes on to the covers.

Some of my items are made to order, so if you see something you like, but need a different colourway, just get in touch. I'm happy to take custom orders too. Grab a brew and have a browse. tatty bye for now. x

I love the green thread running up this hand stitched plantable notebook. Yes you heard right. A notebook that once finished you can plant the cover because it’s embedded with bee friendly flower seeds! And check out the typed words by my typewriter
Have you spotted the new Tan France X Etsy Collection? You can find two co- designed notebooks from the collection in my shop- Tans favourite colours with text typed by Dorothy (my vintage typewriter) on the covers. Presented in a vintage style pouch.

Live the Life you Imagine!

I have always loved to make and work with my hands, since I was small. My Dad is an Engineer and I loved being in his shed with him as a child, making a little wooden boat, or a swing and then when I was older working on my car with him and now, my Camper.
I made clothes for my dolls, curtains for my Wendy house, dressing up outfits. I did any craft I could get my hands on! Embroidery, cross stitch, lacemaking, painting, drawing, sewing printing – I didn’t care as long as I was making something and especially if I was learning a new skill.

I haven’t changed, I am more focused in my work now, but I still love to attend workshops with textile artists. I still have a great appetite for learning new skills. I have been learning traditional upholstery for many years – I love the traditional way of doing things, with hands and materials and tools that haven’t changed for hundreds of years.
My day to day work is focused on stitching, particularly book binding and also hand embroidery. Taking these very traditional skills, that have been practiced for centuries and using them in a way that people still want to own. Using those same tools and indeed the same stitches that have been practiced for years. Continuing a long line of stitchers before me.

My work is centered around Dorothy, my 1950's typewriter. Not only does she type your chosen words on to my books. Her beautiful font appears in the embroidery designs and kits that I produce, marrying typography, hand stitching and eco conscious products.

My philosophy in life is to ‘live the life you imagine’
So for me, that is;
Making – Stitching – Selling – Teaching.
Living in the countryside in a Victorian brick cottage, with a dog and some chickens, a logburner to keep warm.
Days out and adventures in our Bell tent and Camper – campfire cooking.
I always felt like this, but since my husband’s illness, it has become even more important to me to:-

UK Postal Delays during the covid 19 pandemic

Are sent via first class. I buy my postage online and so your order will have a qr code that is scanned on posting and delivery with a GPS fix.

During the Pandemic I am currently finding that some orders arrive within a few days but others take two weeks. Depending on pressures within individual facilities that the parcel passes though.

If it hasn’t arrived 2 weeks after I have posted it, please do let me know so that I can open an investigation with Royal Mail for you. If it still in the Royal Mail system they will consider it lost and issue compensation so that I can either fully refund you or remake and send again.
