About

About Jameela and Bohemian Earth

About me:

I was born in Chattanooga, TN and I now live in North Carolina where I recently earned my English PhD. I've been making earrings since I was a teenager and I've loved rocks and minerals since I was a young child. Together, these interests have led to a large collection of gemstone jewelry and found rocks.

My rock collection grew larger after living in New Mexico for four years, and the Southwest USA introduced me to a whole new world of gems, minerals, and jewelry making. I frequented a local mineral shop and began making earrings for myself again along with the occasional necklace. After receiving many compliments over the years, and from a desire to make more jewelry than I can wear, I opened my Etsy store, Bohemian Earth in 2011.

Each handcrafted necklace, bracelet, or pair of earrings I make is crafted with love, careful attention, and high quality materials. Most items I make are one-of-a-kind or are a part of a limited edition series.

I really love being able to share this part of myself with others, and I hope you see something you love.

My Etsy shop, Bohemian Earth:

The name "Bohemian Earth" reflects the range of my interests in cultures near and far and my love of natural materials. I love the minimal and the extravagant, bright colors and deep earthy hues. I love delicate earrings and big, chunky, statement-making necklaces. I am inspired by the global East, West, North, and South. I think that my eclectic taste is reflected in my jewelry.

Where I create:

I create my pieces in my office (that in the past has functioned as a dissertation-writing haven, a spare bedroom for futon-sleeping guests, and a window to the world for my late pup, Ziggy Stardust). I sometimes sketch out designs before I sit down to create and other times I'm just burning to do something with my hands and I let spontaneity take over. When I'm ready to make a piece of jewelry, I take out beads and metals I think will best complete my vision. Sometimes I'll lay out a design on a bead board and leave it for days or months to stew, as it were. I'll move a bead or play with pendant options until I feel the design is perfect. Then, I begin composing... sometimes I'll string a whole necklace, try it on, and then start over. I want each piece to fulfill the feelings, the colors, or the inspiration from a painting, song, artist or writer that originally sparked the design. I also can create custom pieces for customers based on their color preferences or create something around their personality.

Where I buy my materials:

I buy my materials from local bead shops, fellow Etsy sellers, and a few other select online retailers who sell loose beads or hard-to-find components. I do enjoy buying materials in-person so I can really see and touch each strand of beads or one-of-a-kind pendant before I buy it. And, of course, by buying items in person, I'm also supporting my local economy.

Just so you know:

Through my descriptions, I aim to convey the concept behind each piece, what it's made of, and how to care for it (you can also refer to the section on caring for your jewelry in my shop policies).

Welcome to my Etsy shop! I hope you find something that speaks to the bohemian spirit within you…

The name Bohemian Earth reflects the range of my interests in cultures near and far and my love of natural materials such as turquoise, jasper, agate, brass, and copper. I love the minimal and the extravagant, bright colors, and deep earthy hues. I love delicate earrings and big, chunky, statement-making necklaces. I am inspired by the global East, West, North, and South. And, because of my background and love for art and literature, you may find a few pieces named after my favorite artists and authors. I also like to pair different materials, so you may see Czech glass, pearls, vintage lucite, and resin sprinkled here and there!

I strive to create high quality, long lasting jewelry. Many pieces I create are one-of-a-kind (OOAK) or limited edition designs. Jewelry I make with artisan made focal pendants, such as those from Nepal, will be one-of-a-kind designs. However, if you see something you love in the sold section, I may be able to create a similar piece for you--just convo me. See my evolving portfolio at bohemianearth.blogspot.com.

Payment
Please pay for your items within 24 hours of checkout. Failure to do so will result in an item being re-listed.

I accept payment through PayPal. PayPal is safe and easy to use, and your financial information is never revealed to me. You can even use PayPal if you do not have a PayPal account. See this helpful guide to buying with PayPal: http://help.etsy.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/361

For general help with ordering on Etsy, visit the link below:
http://help.etsy.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/339

I also accept payment through Etsy's Direct Checkout. Paying through PayPal (or Direct Checkout) ensures you get your item in 3-5 business days rather than a week or more.*

Please note that I strongly prefer payment through PayPal, as it is one of the safest ways to pay online and charges lower transaction fees than Etsy's Direct Checkout. Using Paypal helps keep costs down.

*However, I will accept a money order or personal check. You will need to mail your money order or personal check to the address provided during checkout right away. I will not ship your item until your money order or check has cleared. If you chose to pay through either of these methods, please convo me when you mail your payment.
Shipping
U.S. DOMESTIC SHIPPING:

Please see each item's listing concerning packaging. Most items will arrive in a hand decorated gift box reading for gifting.

All orders will ship either via USPS First-Class mail with Delivery Confirmation in a secure, padded mailer OR USPS Priority Mail in a secure mailer/box.

At present, I ship within 48 hours of your cleared payment. (If you pay on Friday, I will ship no later than Monday.) During the week, I almost always ship the next day.

Please allow 48 additional hours after your cleared payment before shipping "made-to-order" items. These pieces are clearly marked as such.

Gifts:
If you are purchasing an item for someone else, please let me know that the item is a gift in the "message to seller" field when you check out. I will place your gift in a cotton-filled jewelry box and, if you like, ship it to your recipient with a non-itemized invoice. Provide the recipient's address as the shipping address. It's also a good idea to send me a convo first as I'll be happy to add in cards or notes for a small fee.

Expedited Shipping:
If you would like to upgrade to USPS Priority Mail, please convo me before purchasing an item. In most cases, Priority Mail will cost a flat fee of $7.

INTERNATIONAL ORDERS:
Please refer to the shipping and handling costs for individual items. If your country is not listed, as I have not estimated costs for all items, please convo me for a shipping quote before you buy an item, and in most circumstances, I will reserve the item for you until I can get you an accurate quote. I've shipped to Australia with no issues (and more recently Spain). Each situation is different, so please feel free to convo me and I'll be happy to work with you.
Refunds and Exchanges
I want you to be completely happy with your purchase. Please let me know if anything is wrong before leaving negative or neutral feedback and I will see what I can do. However, due to the nature of earrings, they are not returnable or exchangeable. Please read all information about an item's materials and dimensions before purchasing.
Additional policies and FAQs
I try to describe each item to the best of my ability. So that you'll be happy with your purchase, please check dimensions and understand that colors may vary from computer to computer. I also guarantee that all earrings are UNWORN!

RESERVES:
I will reserve an item or items for you for up to seven days.

ALTERATIONS:
Most ready-to-ship necklaces and bracelets cannot be altered, but you should always ask (convo me!) to make sure if there is something you'd like to be a little different. In general, earrings (i.e., hooks) are more alterable.
