Josefa, lover of handmade craftsmanship, is proud to offer you a unique fashion accessory from elsewhere, it is the bag or "mochila", from the crafts of the Wayuu ethnic group, people of the wind of sand and sun, from La Guajira in Colombia, with the idea of valuing the work of Wayuu women and contributing to the dissemination of their culture.

The Wayuu Amerindian people inhabit the La Guajira Peninsula in Colombia, a vast desert territory, bathed by the Caribbean Sea. The word "Wayuu" means "People" in their language, Wayuunaiki.

Legend has it that originally it was the spider "Walekerü" that taught a wayuu girl the loom. From there, all Wayuu women learn the technique and use geometric designs called "Kanaas". These drawings are transmitted from generation to generation and they have a symbology, in relation to their environment and cosmology.

The Mochila or wayuu bag is called "Susu" which means "That which works with you".
For the natives the shape of the mochila symbolizes the creation of Life. Its concave shape is reminiscent of the womb or uterus of the Universal Mother. The mochilas are woven in the shape of a spiral which represents the creation of the world.
