There's a Little South America in Everything I Do
Hola! I was born in the U.S. but grew up in South America where life is so, so colorful. Hand-woven fabrics, deeply meaningful indigenous art, ancient languages, and unique music forms are still a part of our everyday living. I began paying attention to the minute details of life when my mother gifted me my first camera at the age of 4. Instead of the usual photos of scenery, mine were always extreme close-ups of textures, fabrics, stones, water, people's eyes... Color was everywhere, and I wanted to capture every tone and shade of it.
I became fascinated with crafts and jewelry-making early on as well, as the streets of South America are lined with weavers, jewelry makers, painters, musicians and artisans. I grew up with hand-crafting in full view all day, every day.
Today, while I do create some popular or trending pieces, I prefer to create one-of-a-kind big, bold, genuine gemstone jewelry. I'm fascinated with the geology behind the stones. Because each stone is formed over millions of years, no two pieces of jewelry will ever be exactly the same. I honor that in my work. Like the stones, their textures, colors, and the conditions under which the Earth created them, we were also each created to be a limited edition of one.
