About

Handmade knit and crochet accessories in luxury fibers.

I love handmade. I treasure the time, care, effort, and love that goes into a hand-crafted item. It delights me to support a small business, someone creating things because they MUST create. For years I watched my husband make gorgeous furniture for our home, envying his passion and resourcefulness. His pieces were attractive AND useful, and I wanted that same fulfillment. But from what?

I had never considered myself a creative person, but then I turned to yarn for comfort after my father died In 2012. I left a career in retail management to become a stay-at-home mom, and since both my kids were school-age, I had more quiet time than I'd had in years.

I watched my sister-in-law knit, her hands moving smoothly and quickly, the needles clicking ever so slightly, and I wondered if I could do that. I admired the tiny, adorable amigurumi my other sister-in-law made, and wished I knew how to make them. I read books, so many books, and I came across characters speaking of knitting as healing, and after a difficult year, I craved that healing. I got the push I needed when I stumbled across a book about how to teach yourself to crochet. The book was on top of a stack and priced $2. That was enough to get me going. I bought the book and learned to crochet.

It was fabulous. I had no idea there was so much variety in patterns and yarns. Oh, the yarns! A few months later my sister-in-law taught me to knit, and as soon I knew how to knit and purl, I was obsessed. Discovering natural fibers, how they feel flowing through my fingers, how the rich colors come to life in a knitted fabric, only made me more dedicated. I buy yarn because it catches my eye and feels good against my cheek, and then I let it tell me what it wants to become. Working with the yarn is the best part of this job, which means I have more finished items than I know what to do with. And it brings me even more joy to get them to someone who appreciates the quality, time and effort in one of my handmade creations.

I specialize in hats but also create cowls, scarves and bags. I love special orders and am happy to work with you to create something new and different. My turnaround time for a commission varies by the size of the piece, but most can be completed within two weeks. A rush order could be arranged if needed. I accept Paypal, MC and Visa.

I am the knitter behind bonny knits. When I'm not driving my kids around, or walking my puppies, you can find me with a ball of yarn and two pointy sticks.
