Such a beautiful print. I love everything about it. It's perfect! It's one thing to look at the beauty of each of Mary's litttle boogers online but to hold your very own is absolutely magical. Thank you for sharing your art with the world!
This piece is truly outrageous! As soon as I saw it I knew I had to get one for my sister and one for myself. I love the cuteness and nostalgia in this print. The details are absolutely on spot. This print brings back childhood memories and I know my sister will appreciate this as much as I do. I am absolutely in love with each and every print I received. They're all just so purdy! Thank you, Boogervampire!
I love all of it! Cute, creepy and so unique. These pieces are all so beautiful and every detail makes me smile. The tote bag is bright and colorful and will be used FOREVER. Thank you for so much awesomeness. (P.S. Thank you bunches for my Monster Date print)
Ordered a couple of awesome pieces from this shop and they are all absolutely perfect! Love everything about Mary's style and can't wait to hang this beauty. Thank you, boogervampire!
A little laboratory for me to display and share my adorably macabre creations with the world.
The Crypt of DOOM started in 2009 as a way for me to get my personal art work out into the world, but primarily it's a labor of love and my hobby. As stated in my bio, I'm a professional animator, meaning I help make cartoons for a living. I'd like to say I do it for "kids", but in actuality I do it for adults. For the last 5 years I've worked on two very popular adult Cartoons. One on Cable and one on regular network television. I opened the shop as a way to force myself to not get caught up in my day job and continue to make artwork for myself. . . and if other people found it appealing, rock on.
I initially started posting my paintings in the shop. Then I decided to try my hand at making custom designed aprons. Although the aprons were fun to make they were exceptionally time consuming and the price I was (am, when I make new ones) required to ask for each totally custom piece lead me trying new things.
Next on the chopping block of things to try was shrink plastic jewelry and charms. Early in my career I worked for a kid's website called Neopets. They use a computer program called Flash and all the images we made for the site were very tiny. Because of this experience I knew I'd be able to make some pretty interesting designs, shrink them, and have them still look good. I first started out trying some cupcake designs (3 of the original 4 can still be found in the shop) and moved on to other monster foods. Once I perfected my technique, I decided to make some charms and earrings based on one of my all-time favorite things, Sugar Skulls!
Since the introduction of the sugar skull line, the Crypt of DOOM has gotten quite a bit of attention. People come for the Sugar Skulls and stay to look at all my other monsters!
My process is relatively simple, and very 'handmade'. (Not that others processes aren't. After all, it's Etsy. It's all supposed to be handmade.)
For my charms, earrings, necklaces, hair clips and occasional bracelets or magnets, I sketch out and create my images in the computer (Flash) and then print them out on shrink plastic. It takes a couple days to finish each item, but I then bake them, seal them and then attach any findings that are necessary. Sometimes it takes longer if I've got a deadline at my day job, but for the most part they have relatively quick turnaround times.
Most paintings you'll find in the shop were either painted in acrylic paint on stretched canvas, or gouache (an opaque watercolor paint) on watercolor paper. I'm a stickler for presentation so most paintings either have finished edges for easy hanging or have been framed.
The prints you'll find in my shop have been printed by myself at home on my computer. I have a higher end Epson printer that I use print the images and print them on Epson watercolor paper. Epson states that using the printer in combination with their paper does create archival prints that are tested to go with out fading for up to 100 years.
Mary J. Hoffman (a.k.a. the Boogervampire)
Owner, Maker, Designer
Mary J. Hoffman is a Seattle, WA native who had to move to Los Angeles, CA in order to pursue her career in the animation industry. She's been working professionally as a designer and storyboard artist for nearly 8 years.
The Boogervampire is the mischievous little vampire that runs the show. He's quite fond of all things creepy and cool. Especially those things dealing with his favorite color, Monster Puke Green (Lime, neon or apple green to everyone else).
I am your host, the Boogervampire, more commonly referred to as Ms. Mary J. Hoffman. I primarily work in the animation industry and in my spare time I paint and make jewelry.
My primary philosophy, I guess, is that there are many people out in the world who walk the line between the cute and the macabre and I've always been one to try to meld the two together. My work mostly focuses on taking creepy subjects and making them bright, colorful, cute and fun for all, or vice versa.
I hope you enjoy what you see and thanks again for taking the time to stop by my little lair.
Accepted payment methods
- Accepts Etsy gift cards
I must also say at this point that I am a stickler for rules, so any one contacting me to change my policies (i.e. let them use checks, or send them my payment info so that they can pay me with out using Etsy's check out system) will be politely rejected from here on out.
All items shipped to the United States will be sent via USPS First Class mail within a week of receiving payment. If your order weighs more than the maximum 13 ounces for first class, you will be bumped up to priority shipping.
I do my best to ship within three buisness days from the time of your purchase. Also, for the most part, I ship two days a week: Wednesdays and Saturdays. Occasionally if I have time I may drop your package off on an unscheduled day, but for simplicity's sake, I've made the two day's listed above the "set" shipping days.
Once your items has been dropped off at the Post Office, you will receive an e-mail via the new Etsy notification system with your USPS.com Tracking number.
All International Packages are shipped via USPS First Class International. This method does keep your shipping costs down but I do not know, nor can I guarantee how long it will take for your package to reach you. I've had international orders take anywhere from 10 days (Singapore) to over a month (France) to get to their owners.
Since International First Class mail is not a shipping option via Paypal's shipping feature, I have to take your item to the Post Office counter and speak directly with an attendant. Because of this, your shipments will only be Shipped on WEDNESDAYS and SATURDAYS. Once they have been shipped you will receive an e-mail via the Etsy Shipping Notification system with your Parcel Number.
Please be advised, the parcel number I provide you with is only the customs form number and not a tracking number. The United States Postal Service can sometimes show you some information using this number, but only until the package departs the United States. Why do I send the customs form number then, because I'd like you to have the number just in case.
Recently the United States Postal Service has raised prices for International shipping. The current pricing is as low as I can make it. I do realize that the shipping prices are more more than some of my items in the shop and I am sorry, but unfortunately there's no work around.
**Other Shipping Information**
I use the Automated PayPal shipping option, so you will be e-mailed your USPS tracking number once I process your package through their system. But don't fret, I will also e-mail you via the Etsy Shipping Notification system with your tracking number once I have dropped your package in the mail. I enjoy knowing where my items are at all times, and I assume you do as well.
If you have any other shipping questions, please feel free to convo me.

Regarding Custom Item Requests:
I do love hearing your custom requests. Please be advised though, I am a busy artist with a day job working in the animation industry. Because of this I am very selective and I only accept custom requests I have the time to complete and feel 100% satisfied with at the end of the day. If I turn down your request it is only because I don't have the time necessary to complete your item with the love and care it properly deserves.
Along the same lines, here are some important facts you should be aware of when requesting an item from me.
Paintings and Illustrations:
If you are requesting a personalized, or custom drawing or painting, please be advised that I require a 25% deposit up front and your deposit will be determined through one on one Convos. The final price of your custom piece will be determined by taking the following factors into consideration: exactly what the subject matter is, the size of the piece, the amount of detail going into the the piece, the medium in which it is being completed, and finally, the amount of time that I will be spending on the piece in order to complete it.
If you are requesting a custom drawing or painting please be advised that it can take anywhere from two weeks to one month to complete (especially the more detailed paintings) and can cost UP TO $300.
The shipping and handling cost for each custom illustration is included in the negotiated price that we work out in our convos.
Please feel free to convo me for more info on your specific request.
