The Borderline Cards Story

Thank you for choosing Borderline Cards!

We create quirky greeting cards that express sentiments that normal brands don’t. Based in Portland, Oregon, our hand-drawn images are inspired by the warmth of community, the creative spark celebrated by the slogan “Keep Portland Weird,” and the natural beauty that imbues our state.

Our name comes from our founder’s favorite Eagles song, “Out on the Border,” her penchant for pushing her physical limits (including a thru-hike of the Oregon Coast Trail in spring 2017), and this perfect description of her cards from one of her good friends: “Sweet but slightly unsettling.” We push the limits in many ways. We also reach across borders, bridge divides, and spread love and cheer!

At Borderline Cards, we celebrate diversity and support social justice. This is not just reflected in the cards, but also through opportunities for customers to donate to nonprofits. 100% of proceeds from sales of the RESIST card are donated to nonprofits working to support marginalized communities and fight for justice; you can select one organization from a curated list at check-out.

The environment is also a core value at Borderline Cards. 20% of proceeds from the "Are You Global Warming? Because You Melt My Heart" card are donated to the Sierra Club. It is only right to give back to the environment, as it inspires so much of the artwork we produce.

As our company grows, we will continue to expand our charitable giving. You also are supporting a woman-owned business when you purchase Borderline Cards!

There are many reasons to feel good about shopping with us—we respect you for that decision!

Share your card-gifting moments with us on social media! We’d love to see how we have contributed to your celebrations! Follow @BorderlineCards on Instagram and Twitter, and like us on Facebook!

Please “favorite” our shop on Etsy, or write a review! And of course, please check out our products!

Thank you for your support!

Frequently asked questions
Why is your business called Borderline Cards?

Our name comes from our founder’s favorite Eagles song, “Out on the Border,” her penchant for pushing her physical limits (including a thru-hike of the Oregon Coast Trail in spring 2017), and this perfect description of her cards from one of her good friends: “Sweet but slightly unsettling.” We push the limits in many ways. We also reach across borders, bridge divides, and spread love and cheer!

Do you do greeting card commissions?

Yes! Please see the "Greeting Card Commissions" listing in our shop!

Please note: Because these are essentially one-of-a-kind artworks that just happen to be on the front of a card, they will cost $30 and take at least a week to prepare. Please give us as much lead time as possible, and please also be as clear and communicative as you can about what you would like your commissioned card to look like.

We are excited to help bring your unique vision to life!

Can you make me a larger painting or drawing?

Yes! Please see our "Fine Art Commissions" listing in our shop for further details!

Please note: These are one-of-a-kind artworks, and as such, they will cost at least $30 and take at least one week to prepare (price and timeline depend on the size of the piece and the level of detail in the image). Please give us as much lead time as possible, and please also be as clear and communicative as you can about what you would like your commissioned artwork to look like.

Do you offer discounts?

Yes, we periodically do sales and offer coupons. Follow us on social media to get the most up-to-date news on special promotions!

Do you have a brick and mortar location I can visit?

Perhaps one day. :) Your support will help us get there, so thank you for visiting our Etsy shop!

Do you create all of these designs yourself?

Yes! All of our cards are designed and illustrated by our founder, Jenni!

Where do you get the ideas for your cards?

Some of them come from inside jokes among my friends. Some come from my own proclivity for awkward compliments. Some are just things I like being told and telling people! Bottom line: I'm trying to get people to smile!
