Amazing doll and absolutely love her! Beautiful details such as adorable ears, knees, belly and bum. She is so cute! Her outfit is really cute too, with her little bird charm on the lovely knit dress. She makes me smile. Maxine is so sweet and shipped quickly, very great at communicating. Thank you, Maxine, for everything! Love her so much!!!
Whimsical dreams, with a passion for crafting
Hello, and welcome to my small part of the big wide universe, Neska’s Wood. A place where my imagination can run riot, and I can share my creative inspirations. Where nothing bad goes wrong, well hardly ever, but nothing that can’t be sorted out, in two shakes of a unicorn’s tail.
As a child, I delighted in stories by, Enid Blyton, A.A. Milne, and collections of poetry. I always had a book laying around somewhere, and would dream of faraway places filled with pixies and faeries, of mystical forests with the tallest of trees to climb and glittering streams to paddle in. Where whimsical forest creatures could talk and jam sandwiches would be in abundance.
Many a time I’ve been caught daydreaming, away with my faerie friends, on some fantastical adventure, and I have never been happier than being lost in a book or making something creative. From sketching to crocheting, dyeing to moulding something out of clay, I just love to ‘make’. I have always been passionate about crafting, but my one true love, is to sew. Particularly toy making, to watch pieces of fabric come to life is, well, truly magickal.
Now my children have all grown up, and I find that I have more time to visit my imagination. I feel the need not to be selfish, and to share this wonderful world that’s been locked inside my head. Where the story of an enchanted wood, a little girl named Neska and all of her woodland playmates unfold.
So come, join me on a grand adventure, and meet all the new friends of Neska’s Wood.
So what's Waldorf?
Waldorf or Steiner toys are usually made from natural materials such as wool, cotton & wood and draw on traditional European toy making techniques.
The appearance of the toys are intentionally made simple, helping to nurture a child’s creative thinking. Minimal facial features allows a child to explore different relationships, through the emotional flexibility of the toy.
All my Dolls and Woodland Friends are hand crafted by myself and combine traditional Waldorf pedagogy with a rustic woodland style. They are stuffed using lamb’s wool which, when cuddled absorbs the warmth and smell of the owner, giving a sense of comfort and security. Toys have been tested to CE standards, and body seams are double stitched, to give extra strength, which makes the toy sturdy enough for rough play, as well as, lots of loving and hugging.
These one of a kind toys are loved and cherished by children and adult collectors alike, becoming heirlooms to pass down through the generations.
Owner, Dreamer, Lover Of All Things Whimsical
I have been making different kinds of dolls since I could first sew. I love bringing pieces of material to life, and having the end result being something that you can love and cherish.
