The items I have purchased from Bridges Pottery are not only functional but are also so beautiful to look at. Each one is like a piece of art.

About

Bridges Pottery

I am originally from New Hampshire, in the Hanover area where my family had a small farm of sheep and chickens. My work reflects a warm New England sensibility.

I began my relationship with clay at a very young age and have been making pots for over three decades. In high school I had the opportunity to take classes with a great teacher and potter that got me excited about the medium. By the time I was a senior in high school I had a wheel and kiln.

My father (a retired psychiatrist) dedicated his time to blacksmithing and metal sculpture. He was very much into his craft and supported me in my artistic development.

My ceramics training began through the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen in the late 70’s. Much of what I have learned has been self taught through exploration and experimentation.

Creating art with emphasis on functional forms - has always been a driving force in my work. I create functional pieces thrown on the wheel, and more decorative pieces using slab construction. My work reflects a dedication to excellence in craftsmanship.

I studied some ceramics through college, apprenticed for several well-established studio potters in Western Massachusetts and maintained a studio of my own. Over the past three decades my work as a potter has been interwoven with her other endeavors in the corporate world of marketing.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Masters of Business Administration in Marketing.

My Etsy shop is just one sales outlet for my work. I work from my own studio and teach advanced adult ceramics at Haven Art Studio in Port Washington .

I make a large selection of bowls, serving dishes and utilitarian pieces. It's important to me that what I make - gets used - and can be really enjoyed. I use lots of my dishes in my own kitchen, in the microwave and dishwasher too. It feels good to eat out of something that was handmade and has a special meaning.

My husband, two school age children and Australian Shepherd have all learned to put up with my clay filled clothes and bandana.

I am a one woman pottery in Port Washington New York. Everything is handmade by me. I do not mass produce or cast any of my work. My work is unique and carefully made. I have been working in clay for over three decades and pride myself in great workmanship and detail. I love working in clay and spend time everyday up to my elbows in it. I like to share my knowledge so I also teach. Some of my videos can be seen from my website and blog. My pottery has a long journey from me to you and with good care it will last you a lifetime.

Each piece is unique and has its own personality. It is not unreasonable to see slight differences from piece to piece even within a set ( size, shape and glaze). My descriptive measurements are averages.

I try to get as many photographs of the offered piece up on Etsy. Custom orders for Yarn Bowls - pieces pictured for custom work are representative of what you will get. Each yarn Bowl is slightly different and vary slightly in color and shape. I cannot and do not reproduce identical pieces. If I make 5 Blue Yarn Bowls they will look all about the same with some differences. The key cut (arm) on yarn bowls also is different in each bowl. Some tend to bend slightly in the firing and are a natural event from being at 2200 degrees. My work does not look manufactured and has unique characteristics in each piece. If there is something specific you like in a different glaze or shape- just contact me.

Imperfections are part of the beauty of the craft. The human element carried through.

Shipping
SHIPPING
USPS Mail is used to most US destinations east of Iowa. For longer distances Fedex Ground is used. Larger packages are also shipped via ground services. Contact me for expedited or special shipping. I can accommodate most requests. The longer the distance from New York, the longer it takes to arrive.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING
Please read this post that clarifies some important things about international shipping http://www.etsy.com/forums_thread.php?thread_id=6629046 before ordering.

For very small items - First Class International is the cheapest but only for items under 4lbs. More than 4lbs will cost USD $40+ and must go via Priority International. Regular Yarn Bowls are under 4lbs, Large and bigger are over 4lbs packaged. Contact me if international shipping is not listed (I am slowly updating listings)

PACKAGING AND INSURANCE
Insurance is not included. I pack my work so that there is very little chance of any breakage. If something does defy the numbers - and arrives damaged, I will refund or replace at my expense. Over the years I have learned just how hard it is to actually get a payment/claim from shippers.
