More Art, Less Waste

Inside each of us is a Brilliant Stranger. My goal is to embrace the beauty and the mystery of this life every day. I can find that within myself and in the world. Creating art and clothing helps me to cross back and forth between those lines.

I have been painting for over 35 years, and I started to teach myself to sew by upcycling vintage clothing ten years ago. Over the last decade the two creative ventures have begun to merge into a line of wearable art. I am amazed at the power a garment can have, how it can transform a person when they put it on their body. That realization has inspired me to strive to create clothing that is sustainable, beautiful, playful and unique.

When my clothing line became successful I found the hours at the machine took a toll on my body and took away from the creative aspects of my work, so I began to seek help. I reached out to my friends at Ganesh Himal, an incredible group of people with a fair trade line from Nepal. At this time the artisans from Ganesh Himal sew several of the basic pieces from my designs before I start to dye, paint and do other finishing work. It has been a wonderful experience, working with "strangers" from across the world and supporting each others' small shops!

I still continue to paint for arts sake, and my paintings are a very personal and powerful vehicle for me to access and express a connection with my subconscious, my ancestors and the world around me.

Having the dual outlets of fine art and clothing production has allowed me to switch back and forth between my very introspective, inquisitive side and the more playful, social aspects of my personality. Living this creative life has made me a very satisfied and joyful person at the age of 52. I hope to be living this way well into my 90's!
