About

Wool, wool, wool and a little bit of fabric ........ then came the bears 💕

I've knitted for as far back as I can remember. The first thing I made was a lilac scarf when I was about five years old, it was probably more 'hole' than stitches, but I loved it and that was the start of my love of yarn.

During my teenage years I discovered oddpins patterns (one large needle and one small needle) and made myself loads of long baggy jumpers in an array of rainbow colours. My friends spent their Saturday's at the high street in Chelsea Girl and Top Shop, whilst I was in the local drapers shop enthusing over their new delivery of double knit with sparkle glitter.

A few years later the children came along (1 blue & 2 pink) so I had the perfect excuse to carry on knitting and I discovered the delights of picture knits, Rupert and Fireman Sam being firm favourites.

As the children got older and were no longer wanting to wear mums jumpers, I thought I'd go out and learn something new so I enrolled at my local college to do a City & Guilds course in textiles. It was then that I discovered another new love, fabric!! I was only going to do the course for one year, but five years on I'm still a student. I've done patchwork and quilting, machine embroidery, hand embroidery, box making, pattern cutting and dress making and I still love every minute of it.

I'm a relative newcomer to crochet, it was something that in the past had always baffled me. But just over a year ago I was determined to learn and spent hours practising, and practising and practising a little bit more!! I think I can now say that I'm 'totally hooked' and I carry some crochet around in my bag whever I go.

My home is full of handmade 'things', and I started selling my makes just to make a bit more room at home. My long suffering husband often has to move a basket of wool or a pile of fabric so he can sit down, and the poor man has spent many an hour in the cold, standing outside a shop whilst I'm inside getting my 'wool fix'

Then came the Bears......... I'd always fancied having a go at making a 'proper' teddy bear and my darling hubby bought me a kit. Well, I loved it. I made the first one, then started tweaking the pattern to make them more mine!! My house soon had little Bears sitting everywhere, so I'm now making them to sell. I'm hopeful that they'll all find loving homes.
