I worked as a junior designer at a small firm for a year when the recession left me out of a job but gave me the chance to go to university and explore my passions for films, writing, and coffee.

But a lack of money and a desire to redecorate led me to come up with some inexpensive yet one-of-a-kind items - posters.

At the same time I decided to use Tumblr and as I was doing all my writing at uni I decided to upload my posters instead - and within the month I had people asking if they were for sale!

Three years on - I've changed from britishindie to MacGuffin Designs and my designs have dramatically evolved, but they've still made their way across the UK and Ireland, as well as making their way overseas to America, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, The Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, and Taiwan.

In 2014 I also started a side project focusing on food illustration and homewares now called House of MacGuffin -

I hope there's much more to come though!

Frequently asked questions

I want to buy a mug but I'm not in the UK. Can I still order one?

I don't ship the mugs overseas unless under exceptional circumstances. However, you can still purchase a mug from my shop on Society6 ( which is based in the US and does ship across the world.

I want to order an item as a gift for a friend and don't want them to know how much I spent. Do you have to put a receipt in with the order?

If you mention it in the 'note' section of your order, or send me a message via the Etsy system once you've paid, I won't put a receipt in with your order. Instead the recipient will get a 'hello! I'm a gift' card and I will send you, the buyer, an e-receipt once your order is on its way.

Custom and personalised orders

Yes, I do custom orders. It can be anything from changing a background or quote, to creating a whole new design. With custom orders a mock-up image is created for the customer to approve before a new listing is made. Please note if you are outside the UK I don't do custom mugs orders unless under exceptional circumstances.

Why is my item not available for immediate dispatch?

Every item on the shop (with the exception of 'Last Chance to Buy') is made to order. This means it takes me some time to have your order prepared. If you'd like an item for a particular date either ask via the messaging service before ordering or mention it in the notes section of your order - if I can't have it ready for the date you need I will let you know.
