About

Brooklyn Taxidermy

Brooklyn Taxidermy started in 2011 with the name Hoardaculture, as it was Amber Maykut's way to clear out some of the taxidermy projects and items she had hoarded over the years. Collector turned maker, Amber is a longtime taxidermy and entomology enthusiast, as well as a longtime NYC resident. Thus, she often found her tiny apartments overflowing with strange and unusual items she has collected, salvaged, fixed, or made. Moving from apartment to apartment prompted some of her first flea market tables and online sales. Now, she’s a licensed taxidermist, certified in bird and mammal taxidermy, and runs a full-time taxidermy studio in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
