Hand-beaded Jewelry, Barrettes, and Accessories

Norwich, Connecticut 15 Sales On Etsy since 2017

Announcement   Welcome to my Beadwork Shop! During the craft season, you may find my that my shop goes on "vacation" a lot -- usually Saturdays. This is because I take my inventory on the road to live craft events, supporting schools, fire departments, local charity organizations and such. I wouldn't want to sell out of an item that's listed in my shop in person at the same time as someone places an online order for it. I usually open my online shop again the very next day. If you see something you like, but would like to order a different color combination, or if you like something that I have sold out of, contact me and I'll see what I can do to accommodate your request.

#SUNFLOWERS! Inspired by nearby #ButtonwoodFarm in Glasgo/Griswold CT, I have introduced a new item to my inventory: #SunflowerPins! While writing this post, I recognized that some buyers may want #SunflowerEarrings. I can do that too, by request.

Most of my Etsy listings have been barrettes, but I make other items too! Here is a new beaded bracelet in shades of brown and copper. I made it while on the road at a craft event. Check my other listings for a matching (you guessed it) barrette!
I'm preparing more barrettes to take my Beadworks Shop on the road Saturday, 2017-June-3 to Norwich Tech High School (Norwich, CT, USA) for a craft event hosted by the Class of 2019. Come see my works in person. Mention my online update for a $2 discount!

About

Once I Started Beading, I Didn't Want to Stop

I had picked out some fabric to make an outfit for myself and decided that I wanted to try my hand at making a beaded necklace set to go with it. I took the cut of fabric with me through the local craft store and I walked into the bead aisle. I chose a few complementary colors, sizes, and textures of beads. That's where it all began. After making my simple, single-strand necklace, pair of beaded hoop earrings, and a bracelet, I wanted to make more! Within a few days, I went into another craft store and browsed the bead aisle. A set of sliders with sparkly ultra-marine and clear crystal-cut glass bead settings caught my eye. I found another set of sliders that would coordinate well. I started to picture in my mind a swoopy swaggy multi-strand necklace that would need "some of these and some of those and a few of these" as I started grabbing more strands of beads from the rack. I got my treasures home and started to arrange the beads and sliders as I had pictured them in my mind. Necklace! Bracelet! Earrings! My first "masterpiece" set was soon completed. I wanted MORE! Not only for myself, I also wanted to share my new-found passion, so I made more "masterpiece" sets for 3 of my dance troupe friends. One "girls' night out," I brought the carefully boxed jewelry sets with me and started handing out presents around the restaurant table. They were all delighted with their gifts. A couple years later, we are still wearing my Beadworks at performances. I'm pleased to see how much my friends are enjoying my work.

It didn't stop there. I wanted to make MORE! I made a few more sets for myself and other friends. After a few more projects, my attention turned from jewelry sets toward barrettes. It was probably mainly driven by my own desire for large-capacity French-Clip barrettes with more color choices than I could find in the hair care section of most department stores. I have thick hair, and lots of it. Barrettes are nearly an essential -- especially the 3-inch size. I bought more and more beads as I started making barrettes to go with certain outfits. I concocted a few different styles that I could replicate fairly easily with different color palettes. After stringing at least half a dozen bead arrangements, I figured that I would eventually have too many barrettes to keep them all for myself. It was time to start selling some!

Having already been to several dozen craft events as a vendor for my Ambigram Greetings, I knew that event coordinators try not to duplicate vendor types. I had seen that most beaded jewelry crafters focus on necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. I had yet to see anyone make barrettes, so there was my foot-in-the-door for selling my Beadworks.

In order to boost my presence, I decided it was also time to start an Etsy shop. So here I am, Bubbalah's Beadworks. I hope that you enjoy wearing my Beadworks as much as I do!!

You will see from my listings that barrettes are my main focus. I still do necklaces, earrings, and bracelets too. If you see a design that you like, but you'd like it in a different color, please submit a request and I'll try to accommodate.
