Art teacher and photographer turned silversmith

My first love is photography. I received my first camera at a young age and went on to study darkroom techniques and historical printing processes in college. I later became an art teacher and have spent the past thirteen years teaching art to grades kindergarten through 7th grade and photography to 8th graders. In 2008 I decided to take a course in small metals and discovered that darkroom photography and metals have a lot in common. There is silver and there is light and the way that the light reflects off of objects. There is also the excitement of working on something and not knowing exactly how it is going to turn out until the end. Working with small metals became my second love.

My husband is a builder, carpenter, and a welder so he was more than happy to help me set up a small metals studio in the basement of our home. On some nights we are both in the basement studio -- he works at one end on larger items like engines and I work at the other end with my very tiny torch. My side of the basement is definitely tidier than his.

I make everything, with the exception of the sterling chain and stones if I am using them, myself. I do not use any pre-made charms. I feel much of the joy in creating jewelry stems from taking the raw material and shaping it into something else. There is also something very cool about using fire to coerce metal into a desired form.

Welcome to my shop!
All of the jewlery is hand fabricated. I do not use any premade charms or pendants. I cut, solder, form, hammer, and finish everything myself. Everything is sterling silver.

Many of my necklaces are shorter in length than the average necklace. This is because some of them are made to sit near the collarbone. I feel that necklaces that accentuate the collarbone (or "clavicle") are quite lovely and flattering - and easy to wear. But I do know that we do not all have the same neck size. So if you feel a necklace would be too short for you please convo me and in most cases I can add a chain extension to the back of the necklace. For example, I could add an inch of chain to the back along with another loop for clasping.
The extension would be free of charge.

Additional policies and FAQs
Silver Care:
Exposure to air makes silver oxidize faster. The best way to keep jewelry tarnish free is to store pieces seperately in plastic bags (sealed) or to wear them every day (the oils in your skin help to keep the silver tarnish free).
I know keeping jewelry in little baggies is not the most aesthetically pleasing storage solution but I would at least recommend keeping them in a jewelry box instead of lying out in the open. If you find that something is tarnishing, a jewelry polishing cloth like the "Sunshine Cloth" will work wonders at removing the tarnish.
