So, what’s with the name ‘Buddy & Bean’?

Welcome! Grab a sweet tea and I’ll tell you the story...

The year was 2008; my ‘Ah-ha!’ year. I was honeymooning in Maine with my newly minted husband when I stumbled upon a series of events that would change my life.

While on an afternoon walk in a little seaside town, a sudden heavy rain had caused my husband and I to quickly take cover in the nearest doorway we could find- a little boutique off a downtown cobblestone road. Once inside and with the rain cleared from our faces, I realized that this little store we found ourselves in looked like everything that my daydreams were made of. From the handmade greeting cards displayed on the wall to the classic, yet modern camping gear in the windows, this unique little shop was a world of design inspiration like nothing I had seen before.

After returning to our Bed & Breakfast that evening and mentioning the little shop, an honest conversation with our Innkeeper cemented my ‘Ah-ha!’ moment. I told him of the wonderful things I had seen that afternoon and my pipe dream of having my own paper goods design studio one day. His words to me were to ‘do what makes you happy. Take that chance for yourself. If you are not satisfied with your current path, make a change. I took that chance years ago, opened this Bed & Breakfast, and I have never looked back’.

As motivating as his words were, I was not in a position to simply quit my job to open a design studio. Then it happened. The economy fell and my job as an interior designer fell with it. Yes, I cried for a day, but the heartfelt words from the Innkeeper in Maine came rushing back like the wind! This was my chance! And by golly, I took it!

So, what’s with the name? Buddy is my dog. My nickname is Bean. With the support of my family and friends, a little rain, and the kind words of a stranger, it was my dog and I who put in the long hours to get this dream off the ground. Buddy & Bean. A special reminder of how it all started.

Since opening in 2009, Buddy & Bean has has grown into a wonderful full-time career providing paper goods for hundreds of weddings and events throughout North America and Europe. At Buddy & Bean, we design and create our paper goods in our studio where each and every invitation, card, menu, and program is trimmed by hand with the utmost attention to detail.

Simple design, clean lines, rusty details, kraft paper, shade trees, dirt roads, red chairs, banjos, sweet tea, and great music are just a few of our favorite things. A lot of our inspiration comes from our travels; New England down the coast to Carolina, the mountains and the Midwest. More inspiration comes from fantastic colors and random objects. Our designs are for those who are looking for something a little different in the land of wedding invites and paper goods for various occasions. Our work is for those who smile about handmade, affordable design with character.

Thank you so much for your interest in Buddy & Bean. I look forward to working with you. Please let me know how I can help with the lovely little details of your day!
