Creatively re-purposing thrift shop finds

I have been making art for years after graduating from Arizona State with an art degree, I didn’t know what direction to go with my life and ended up just going back working in a cubicle and making art as gifts for friends and family on special occasions. When we relocated to Washington and I no longer had a job my husband encouraged me to go for it. I had been making art for myself why not try to share it with the world.

My art has always been about trying to tell a story. I am kind of a book nerd, interested in the art of the thrift store find. I grew up under the idea that there is no such thing as waste. My parents had a phrase pinned up on the fridge “Fix it up, Wear it out, Make it do, or Do without.” This part of where my love of thrift store art came from. Since I love story telling I try to tell stories with these pieces I find. The fun is turning the original narrative on its head with what I have added to the piece.

My Boy is my inspiration most times. He is pretty much attached to me at all times. So when I am considering what to do for my next piece I look at him and think what I would like to make for him. Is there are story that I would like to tell him? Can I show him a story that will help ignite his own imagination and creativity throughout his life?
For me it is all about the story.

What stories will line your walls with?

This little man and kitty always have an opinion on how the art is going. They can be the most helpful or the most destructive contributors to the work. Always under feet they add to the creativity and originality of every piece that is created.

Getting you the product quickly and safely is important to me. Nothing is more aggravating that having to waiting ages for a product to arrive or when it arrives damaged. My originals do cost more to ship because they are precious to me, and I want the to arrive in tact, and as the buyer I am sure that you want that too. Prints all ship through USPS and Originals will ship through UPS. I have found these methods to be the safest and most economical ways to ship.

Additional policies and FAQs
These pieces are collage type pieces, meaning that I use found objects and my own painting to create them. For the most part they are my own original paintings added to pre-existing prints found in thrift shops. I appreciate the work that the people who have created the originals have done and I would never knowingly add my own art to another's original. I work on the premise that no art can be created with out reference to what has come before it, but I also understand that what has come before is just as important and valid as what I am doing and I would never want to disrespect anyone's art.

That being said what I create is just as original as the art that I am using to create the collage. I value my own creativity in the space that is created by the artists who's work I am using. These are original works, just as original as anything created from a blank sheet of paper. It is just a different kind of creativity. My canvas just doesn't start out as clean as most people's.

I do make custom pieces. I am willing to print for you on canvas any piece that is listed as being available in print. When I print a canvas of a piece I will personally hand enhance your individual canvas and make alterations if you request changes (alterations are only available for canvas prints). I am also willing to change the color of frames and mats on any of the originals. They are thrift store finds and may not match your home decor.

You can also make requests regarding what type of creature should inhabit my next pieces. If you have one you would like to see just let me know. Art is so vast in its different variations that I cannot even begin to list all of the ways that pieces can be customized. If you own idea and creativity requires a customization that I have not listed you need not fear. I am willing to try to work with you to make what you are looking for. Feel free to contact me with any special requests you may have.
