About

Journey through materials , exploring different processes to produce unique accessories that make everyone smile

My name is Müge,and I'm the designer, maker ,knitter, sewer of Buggadesign.I live in Istanbul Turkey, surrounded with caring friends and family.I sell unique and fun lasercut jewelry, knit and fabric accessories and newly working on leather goods such as coin purses and wallets which I make by hand.

I have always been a maker. When I was young I was surrounded by crafty women such as my mom, grandma and aunts who are capable of sewing ,knitting ,painting and making any object out of scratch. They taught me how to sew ,knit and enjoy using the products I made on my own .How to become different from the crowd with unique accessories and clothes.I even remember my aunt taking me shopping at Grandbazaar to explore vintage jewelry items to make outstanding jewelry. As education mattered in my family these ladies except from my grandma are doctors, engineers ,they all have a day time job and activities I mentioned above were how they spend their spare time .As I needed a full time job like them I became a chemical engineer but never stopped making accessories for myself and friends out of bits and bobs at my spare times.

As a chemical engineer I worked at the fashion industry as a fabric developer, buyer for American brand, seller for over 10 years working many hours a day ,working heavily.I always treated the fabrics I developed as my babies, always kept the leftovers and save them to turn into accessories someday when I had time from the day time job. When one day things did not worked out as expected in my day time job at the sourcing company I ran into some brochure for a course that I could attend at weekday nights about design culture and management.I knew I needed a drastic change I was stressed out so much that I started suffering from vitiligo.I took the course and while attendin I learned the basics of developing a brand .After 8 months I was excited and full of energy to quit my day time job and start up my own brand.
My first materials were fabrics that I had been collecting for many years and I designed one of a kind leg warmers to start with ,and they were being sold at a local shop in Istanbul .I was quite amazed to see that people were actually paying for the products I made and I worked for hours not realizing how the time passed.I decided to quit my day time job and move on learning how to make shoes as it was my dream to catch my clients with shoes.
I ended up working with two ateliers and had a small collection of shoes which my friends and customers loved but I was unable to sell quickly as I was unaware of marketing that time.As I had experience in production I had no idea about marketing. This is time when I discovered Etsy.I was a great fan as a buyer of Etsy when I realized I can sell my stuff too it opened new doors to my business. Not as it is a huge community of people helping eachother on business generation as it opened the doors to international customers .When making shoes I had also left over leather pieces which I started making brooches out of.I was not able to cut leather properly by hand and a friend of my mentioned that I can try a lasercutter. This is where most of my business changed .I met the material plexiglass .It was easy for product development and fast .I started making jewelry collections and started selling on Etsy.My product line started getting larger accessories out of fabric to leather , shoes ,plexiglass jewelry.I only sell my plexiglass jewelry at Etsy for now.As different materials and making processes inspire me nowadays I'm much more interested in working with leather. With the help of my photographer and graphic designer friends and my one and only business developer brother we are now working on a new collection of leather wallets and bags with embrodiery.I still work with my laser cutter but I do the embrodiery by hand .

At the local craft shows I realized one thing. When my customers see my jewelry they smile first. Those few moments is why I carry on this business for over 8 years. For online customers it is the fastinating feedbacks I receive. It is fantastic to know that you make someone happy just by sending a piece of your mind and soul. That is what keeps me alive.

I believe making every new product is meditation for the soul.My vitiligo patches are healed since I left my day time job.Bugga is not a word with definition in my language . As I feel like renovating my soul every time I sew, knit, make a jewelry there fore the word 'Bugga' means renovating my soul .Please enjoy wearing the pieces which healed my soul while making.
