I am registered and ready to write Oliver in! Go Oliver!
A Girl and Her Cats
A simple picture message of Scotty wearing a Becca made hair bow that jumpstarted Business Catual. Shortly after taking it a local hand made craft store insisted on having the bow ties in the shop as soon as possible. The enterprise was coined Business Catual (a name from Becca's friend Matthew). The first product was the original Portland cat bow tie and it was, in fact, the first Portland made bow tie for cats. Bam. It didn’t take long after creating bow ties for Business Catual to cranking out wild images for the internet, postcards and other BC merchandise.
Today, when Becca isn't napping, playing with yarn or staring out a window she is gathering new old fabrics and pawing out inspiration for creative designs. Scotty and Oliver, the beloved house cats, can be found cuddling and chewing crinkly things around the apartment though occasionally deign appearances on Facebook or in our product listings.
As may be obvious we are here for the love of cats so from the very beginning Business Catual has given back. A portion from every bow tie goes to local no kill animal welfare organizations like Cat Adoption Team. We are proud to be from Portland, a city that strives (through the Animal Shelter Alliance of Portland) to end pet euthanization.
Business Catual is conscientious about our impact on the environment too. We know the best bow ties are born of fabrics fresh from a previous life. Our postcards are made from Forest Stewardship Council Certified paper and earth-friendly soy based ink too.
Owner, Maker, Designer, Curator
Becca is a crazy cat lady. She loves her cats, Scotty and Oliver, and loves to dress them up. Since starting the bow tie business her living room has been a disastrous mess of fabric... but she loves it.
Maggie is the newest addition to our team. She is our resident seamstress. She has two kitties who sometimes wear Business Catual. Working with a retro singer sewing machine, she helps get the bow ties started! Maggie loves tea and cats.
Scotty is one of our cat models. He has many looks and expressions, and is a veteran red dot chaser. He can often be found drinking water from the sink or hanging out in the shower.
Oliver is a timid cat who often poses for treats. He is often not found anywhere in sight, but enjoys a good back rub. Oliver is a pro at sitting on laps during inconvenient times when he is not running away from imaginary creatures.

We worked with a local print shop (down the street) to create postcards from sustainable resources using environmentally friendly inks!
Portland Button Works
Portland, OR, United States
Alex Wrekk and friends make custom buttons to order in a shop in North Portland. Just a few mintues drive from our studio, she prints and hand-makes every button from designs that we create!
A note on fabrics - since all of our fabrics are made from recycled and repurposed materials, once we are sold out of a particular pattern - it's gone! We acquire our fabrics from second hand stores, donations, and scraps. That's the beauty of working with recycled fabrics! It's what makes Business Catual unique! We love that our fabrics come and go and we can give you fun, stylish bow ties for your cats and dogs. If you see something you like, it may not be there later. When we run out of a fabric, there is no way to get any more. This may be disappointing if you were looking for a specific style, but always check back later - we are constantly shopping for the most fun, stylish designs for your cat or dog, and guarantee you will always be delighted!
