Announcement
Each item in this shop is hand made by Brock, and totally unique. All items are made from stoneware or porcelain clays and thrown on a pottery wheel, unless otherwise specified.
While Brock does work with porcelain, and makes some pieces that could be considered Fine China, he does not currently work with Bone China. Bone China contains a significant amount of ground animal bone. Brock's ceramic art can all be considered vegetarian and vegan. He does occasionally work with real leather to make durable straps, which would be disclosed in an individual listing.
Caring for Your Pottery
This pottery is dishwasher safe, unless the description says otherwise. Like any glass or ceramic item, use of harsh dishwasher detergents can cause etching of the vessel's surface over time. If this is a concern, consider hand washing your handmade item instead.
Ceramic and glass items are very durable unless bumped against hard surfaces. Also please take care if your item is extremely hot or cold, to not touch it to anything of the opposite temperature. Thermal shock can crack any piece. Cushion your item with hot pads or trivets.
Treat it with care and it should last a lifetime!

5 out of 5 starsWow! This pitcher is beautiful! I don't think I was expecting something quite as gorgeous as this pitcher. I've purchased several items in the past from BWDArtCo and I can honestly say I'm always delighted. The craftsmanship is awesome! My items always arrived packaged securely with nothing broken, and I find that so amazing when mailing breakables. Another perfect sale and I'm sure there will be others in the near future. Thanks again!

About BWDArtCo

Finishing off a bowl by footing it. Forming a piece may take 1-2 days for a simple form, or longer if complex.
-
Finished items need to dry thoroughly before being kiln fired. This can take days, and pieces may fail while drying.
-
Sometimes, a piece needs alteration. Reshaping can be done, sculpted elements added, or color added before it is dry.
-
Equipment for working clay comes in many forms. This is an extruder.
-
The pottery wheel. The most basic equipment for hand throwing. It should always be dirty.
Everyday art to brighten your routine
Hi, I'm Brock.
I love creating pieces in clay. From the physical exertion of wedging, to the tactile sense of forming items on my pottery wheel, to the adrenaline rush of opening the kiln and seeing whether the chaotic nature of the fire and chemistry has made something beautiful - or simply bizarre - I love it all.
My wife and I sometimes collaborate in the creation process, enjoying the time we can spend together in our home studio.
I hope you find something here that speaks to you, from my hands and through fire.
Thank you for looking.
What is Wheel Throwing?
It is the art of forming pieces while the clay sits on a spinning platform. Each piece made in this way has to be formed by the potter's hands (and tools). This makes the art more labor intensive than molding, which presses clay into a specially made form that can be used repeatedly.
Why Does it Take So Long for a Special Order?
Custom orders take at least 4-6 weeks for brand new pottery styles. That is 3-4 days to form, up to a week to dry, a variable waiting time (to collect enough buddies to fill the kiln for its first firing), one day for firing, some days for glaze application, two days for glaze firing. And in this volatile field, items can fail at any of these stages, and then the potter needs to start over.
How do I Care for Handmade Pottery?
Your pottery is dishwasher safe, unless the description says otherwise.

Brock D.
Owner, Creator, Designer
Brock's first experience with clay work came at the age of 11. Although he spent time without access to pottery work, he always had the goal of returning to it. He began consistent clay work in 2012 and is grateful for the opportunity.

Jocelyn D.
Assistant, Photographer, Shipper
While generally seeing to the paperwork, Jocelyn occasionally works directly with the clay art, especially with decorative elements.

Also a clay artist, Hannah and Brock occasionally collaborate on a single complex piece. We believe that more viewpoints always add value to art, leading to a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts.
