A Brooklyn Mom
My name is Ally Sen and I am a Brooklyn mom who started out making unique, felt hair accessories for my two girls for fun. When my first daughter was six months old, I could never find that perfect hair accessory so I tried making my own. My first barrette was a colorful felt hand-cut flower sewn on a little snap clip. As my daughter grew so did my designs, eventually using a three-prong snap clip that would stay in thicker hair. I loved my creations and so did all my mom friends. I started making more and more accessories, not only new designs for barrettes, but also jewelry and soft felt headbands. A Brooklyn neighborhood storeowner wanted to sell my accessories and New York Magazine showcased my felt rings in their 2012 Fall Shopping Preview. My hand-made items were really drawing interest.
I furthered experimented with creating more felt products, baby mobiles, flower bouquets and wall decorations. My hand-made items, which were sewn late at night on my couch when the girls were asleep were starting to be recognized. Now it was time to try to sell them in a more professional way than just word of mouth. People were telling me about Etsy. I looked at the site. It carried such beautiful, hand-made merchandise that I knew it was a perfect fit for me. It was so simple to set up my personal Etsy store, and such an incredible way to launch my business. Etsy gave me the tools necessary to publicize and sell my creations, reaching people across the world. Before I knew it my sales were climbing and it was such a thrill shipping my hand-sewn items all the way to Europe and Australia. Through Etsy even local storeowners saw my products and reached out to me. My merchandise is now sold in five stores around Brooklyn and still growing.
Etsy has made it possible for me to be a small-business owner and a stay-home mom. My husband’s office in our basement has become my studio, allowing me to have my own space and work uninterrupted while still being at home for our daughters every day. My business has started expanding so fast that I am now interviewing to hire assistants, so that I can concentrate on the creative designs. I am still learning to juggle it all, but I wouldn't trade it for the world.
My mobiles have really become my passion. Each one is made with love and care. I enjoy working with customers creating the perfect look for their baby's nursery or child's room, making unique designs to match their themes and colors. I know how special this process is to them. I have such fond memories of designing my own girls’ room. I love to think of all the new babies that will be looking up at my mobiles. I want to create something really special and full of beauty for their new, little eyes to gaze up at. Whether its flowers, clouds, or stars it must be whimsical, beautiful and calming. With great joy, I add pearls, crystals, or little handmade butterflies to give the mobiles something extra. My studio is full of these gentling moving, extraordinarily beautiful mobiles, which one by one get packed to send off across America and beyond. And with each shipping, I imagine each child receiving them. I hope that even if the mobiles start off above a crib, later they will move to above the bed or over a chair in a favorite reading corner, growing along with the child.
I look forward to the future wherever it takes me. I will continue to put my heart and soul into each creation. Thank you to Etsy for starting my journey!

Owner, Maker, Designer
Hi I'm Ally. I am a Brooklyn mom with two daughters and the owner and creator of AllySen.
I am a Brooklyn Mom to two young girls who love fancy barrettes and hairdos. In the beginning I started making barrettes and headbands just for them.
Through my love of working with felt I started creating my flower felt mobiles and wedding bouquets which have become my passion. My girls are my inspiration and I ask there opinions when creating all the time. I hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
