About

Evoking an old-fashioned English country childhood

Through my etsy shop I hope to evoke my old-fashioned English country childhood and give other families a sense of what it is to grow-up nurtured and cherished within a loving family, a beautiful environment and a solid set of country values.

I grew up on a sheep farm in the Northamptonshire countryside. I was surrounded by interiors in the aesthetic of Country Living - old family farmhouses furnished with antiques and floral fabrics and made fragrant by cut-flowers from English country gardens and the smells of home-baking from the kitchen.
My childhood was traditional and somewhat old-fashioned. Church and roast lunches on Sundays, building dens and damming streams in my spare time. When it rained and we were confined indoors I would turn to needle and thread. As a child I stitched clothes for my dolls and as a teenager I made my own clothes and soft-furnishings for my mother.
At eighteen I opted to take the academic route and won a place to read Geography at the University of Cambridge. The traditional and protective environment of my college provided a gentle transition from the rural world of my up-bringing to my first job, in e-commerce, and living in London. I loved my cosmopolitan years but knew the job could not fulfill me. I left, travelled the world and then trained to be a teacher.
When I married and had children I knew I wanted to give my children the kind of childhood I had had. We moved our young family back to my home village, leaving my teaching job behind.
Ensconced in the dining room of my new home I sewed while my baby daughter napped. I was producing too much so looked into selling my craft online and my etsy shop was born. I now have another child and as my children grow older I find I have more time for my shop.

My blog (see link on the right) is where I share elements of my rural life with children, with the emphasis on cherishing and nurturing children and promoting creativity. Shipping
All products are wrapped in white acid-free tissue paper and tied with co-ordinating raffia. Name pillows are dispatched with a card giving the definition of the name on the pillow. The package is encased in either a blue or pink plastic postage sack which is chosen to compliment the colours of the contents.

All shipping is done by Royal Mail.

UK - first class postage is quoted, including packaging costs. Postage and packaging are costed to the nearest penny so that you get the best value delivery possible.

Europe - a single postage tarriff is available. I have quoted this with the addition of my packaging costs. The Royal Mail delivery aim is within 5 days.

Rest of world - a single postage tarriff is available. I have quoted this with the addition of my packaging costs. The Royal Mail delivery aim is within 5 to 7 working days. However, I am finding it that it takes approximately two whole weeks.

Please note that postage by Royal Mail does not include tracking or insurance. If you require either tracking or insurance please get in touch BEFORE placing your order and I will let you know what I can offer from the UK. Royal Mail offer a service which is fully tracked and one day faster than standard airmail. It costs £5 for parcels to the EU and £5.40 to the rest of the world. If you place your order without asking for special delivery options first you have agreed to take the risk (although minimal), of delivery without tracking or insurance. I have not yet known a parcel not to arrive.

If you require faster shipping please get in touch and I will see what I can provide and give you a quotation.

If you would like more information about Royal Mail's service follow this link:
