Announcement   OOAK. Eclectic. Unique. Hand made jewelry & clothing made from vintage & new materials repurposed into Boho Chic, Neo-Victorian, & Steampunk styles. Wearable Art for those who dare to express their own fashion sense.

I use anything and everything in my jewelry designs, from old escutcheons to broken brooches to found objects, as well as the necessary newer components to finish them. Assemblage and hand painting are key to many of my designs. Tiny details are part of the fun, so look around and be sure to "zoom" the pictures to see what makes each piece so special.

I also design wonderful, wearable clothing using vintage linens, including lace, tablecloths, crochet doilies, and handkerchiefs. The design process is challenging, dressmaking in it's pure form - no patterns, lots of pinning and basting, and starts and restarts. It's a bit like putting together puzzle pieces in order to transform them into a remarkable and beautiful work of art......wearable art! I hope you will take some time while you're here and immerse yourself the sheer fun of the colors and designs of these OOAK dresses, tunics, and skirts.

Please check out my second Etsy shop, where vintage clothing and jewelry are the stars.

About

How I Repurposed Myself

Ever since I can remember, I have been fascinated with color and design. I began making 3D paper doll furniture as a child, learned to sew at age 10, and painted my first dorm room bright yellow with a bright green ceiling! No matter how old or mismatched my furniture was, I managed to make it all look put together. I sewed many of my outfits thru college and have been a thrift/resale/vintage shopper all my life. I love the thrill of finding something I can repurpose and recycle into a fabulously new design.

My personal style is fairly eclectic, but I am happiest when my world is filled with color. I began collecting original artwork of all types while in college and everywhere you look in my home is a visual treat for the eyes - colorful artwork and unique hand made items mixed with vintage finds.

My wardrobe leans toward Boho Chic and vintage. I love to wear things that are unique and original, so designing clothing & jewelry was a natural step for me. I started making jewelry, simple beadwork mainly, in 2005, mostly for my own use and as gifts. By 2009, I began to branch out in terms of style & design. I found that I was inspired by Steampunk, Boho and Victorian and more, and Etsy became my addiction!

I remarried in 2010 and retired from nursing, giving me a real opportunity to pursue my passion for creating. Thus, my Etsy shop, 1ofaKinds by KatDesigns, was born.

Every piece in my shop is designed & hand made by me. I love the process of taking vintage items, found objects, broken jewelry - virtually anything that I can reuse, repurpose and reinvent - and transforming them into beautiful and unique clothing and jewelry. I take pride in my work and get great satisfaction from knowing that things once loved and then discarded will be cherished and loved again in their "new" life.

Please enjoy looking through my shop and don't forget to "zoom" the pictures for better when you see something that catches your eye. And don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions at all. My goal is for you to find the perfect item to fall in love with!

I retired from a long nursing career in 2010 and thanks to my wonderful husband, I am now able to indulge my life long passion for creating. I love color & design and I have a gift for giving old things new life.
