Cutting a lino at my table in the studio - you can see my Northumberland giclees all lined up in the background.
-
Sorting out a big card order - I love packaging up etsy orders and seeing what people have chosen!
-
I resorted to working on the floor for these large botanical prints, a commission for a client in America!
-
Printing my crocus lino prints which were gifted to key workers during the 2020 Covid-19 lockdown.

Working on a Healing print, shifting about all the printed elements before collaging.
Inky fingers
My first ever print was a wonky abstract monoprint I made over 20 years ago at night school at a local college, where I had enrolled on a printmaking course one evening a week. That print still hangs in my kitchen today and I'll never forget how proud I was when it came out of the press.
My printmaking journey has been painfully slow - night school courses whilst working, the odd bit of carving while I was at home with young children, a sideline to other freelance jobs. But I'm now concentrating more and more on printing and am loving the discoveries and mistakes I'm making along the way.
I have worked with monoprint, woodblock and etching but my true love is the good old linocut - such a simple form of relief printing but one which can be taken in so many different directions. I like to layer up different lino blocks on top of each other, playing around with different pressures and inking techniques to create sometimes very subtle looking prints - not what you would expect from a traditional linocut.
Most of my work is done by hand, although I have recently bought a small craft press, which has very much changed the look of some of my more recent prints.
And so my printmaking journey continues. I am slowly discovering who I am as a printmaker, finding my own style and making colourful prints inspired by nature and the landscape around me in the North East of England.
