About

Follow your curiosity

By Law, designer and creator Janet Law believes in creating beautifully and responsibly crafted products.

What does this mean? While sustainability has been a buzzword of the last couple of years or so, my journey started more than 15 years ago while studying Fashion at university. A discussion with my tutor lead me to re-evaluate what it really means to have cheap clothing and its social and environmental impacts throughout the supply chain. For me, sustainability is not a trend.

Although I do not have all the answers - I am trying to do my best to combine my desire for creating with my passion for protecting the environment through producing in a kinder, more respectful way to the environment.

How am I doing this? I started by using scrap leather pieces to create designs, minimising waste and repurposing where possible. I buy offcuts as well as skins that have had samples cut from or seconds. As I have grown, I have started reinvesting in more sustainable materials such as organic wool and will continue to do so. I have also tested many 'so-called' eco-friendly glues and have finally found one that is made from completely natural products with no PVA or plastics that actually work!

If you have brought from me then you will know that all my packaging is made from recycled paper. I even make my own recycled magazine envelopes. All parcel tapes used are 100% recycled paper and plastic. While recycling is not the answer, it helps towards the solution of a more circular design economy.

Transparency is so important, especially for those who are making the decision to buy. I hope to offer products to those who believe in integrity and values their own individuality through the choices they make.

Frequently asked questions
UK Shipping Methods

All items will be posted via Royal Mail 2nd class signed for delivery. Other than non-personalised products with a value of £15 or less (or items with free shipping), these will be sent as standard 1st class delivery with proof of postage or may be sent 2nd class signed for delivery if personalised or OOAK.
Special delivery guaranteed next day (does not cover Saturday) option is available as is Special Delivery Saturday guaranteed should you wish for delivery to be received on a Saturday. Please note to qualify for Saturday delivery you must order in advance to allow time to prepare the item, for example, please do not order on Friday expecting the item will be delivered on Saturday.

International Shipping Methods

All items will be posted via Royal Mail International Tracked and Signed for delivery, (where possible) or international signed for delivery. Other than cards and low value items (under £10) which will be posted as standard for the lower shipping fee.
This is the preferred shipping method as it can be tracked, you are welcome to request standard (lower cost) postal delivery without confirmation or insurance, I will obtain a proof of posting, however, should you chose this option and your item does not arrive I cannot send out a replacement as there is no way to prove the item did not arrive.

Sizing details

If you are unsure about sizing please email me to double check and feel free to ask any questions regarding the item and we will do our best to answer and assist you.

Gift wrapping and packaging

We aim to reduce, reuse, and recycle wastage where possible, therefore not all items will come in gift boxes unless stated in the item description, however, we can ensure you all our products will be in sent in appropriate protective packaging that is and can be recycled, where possible. https://bylawlondon.com/2017/10/04/

All our gift boxes are made from recycled cardboard, and as standard practice in the interest of reusing/reducing waste, we use magazine pages as wrapping paper and ribbons will vary as these are off-cuts of fabric that would have been deemed as wastage. Please see the example on product pages.
Gift-wrap option(additional cost)uses handmade wrapping paper that supports rural communities as well as a handwritten gift tag.

SHIPPING TO USA - please check tracking number if you have not received item within 2-3 weeks.

Unfortunately it seems USPS is not leaving cards to say they have attempted delivery, I have had a high number of 'return to sender' packages, due to no collection at USPS.
If you have received an email to say your item has been shipped, you would normally find a tracking number on that email or in your Etsy account under orders.
Please check after 2 weeks to see where your order is, sometimes it can randomly be held at customs, but if delivery has been attempted and you have not received a card they will return to sender after 3 weeks. I cannot re-send packages unless you cover the costs as it is roughly £8.50 (weight and size dependent) to send with tracking to the US. Thank you.
