About

Weaving a Dream

Going back 15 odd years my weaving loom was bought in a burst of eager enthusiasm following a First Class Honours degree in Textile Design. After some initial efforts at freelancing - which included designing pieces included in London Fashion Week - my loom was assigned to the shadows as earning a living seemed well...unattainable.

Then I moved to France..
Now the weaving loom once assigned to the shadows sits centrestage in my my atelier which is found in the shade of the Chateau de Varaignes here in Dordogne, France. I work in a region known for it`s rich artisanal heritage.

A hop, skip and a jump away a rich abundance of leather and materials became available to me - hides from Paris design houses no longer required jumbled together with end of line leathers from Italian, French and Spanish tanneries. Just waiting to be delved into.. well that was the beginning of the adventure! Huge reels of cotton braid, odds and ends from the regional slipper factories, just lying waiting to have a moment's worth. It was just shouting out 'make something amazing!!'

I started to weave with what was available to me close at hand, and together with the beautful and very often unusual pieces of leather a story started to emerge.. I call it ..

Byloom and Hyde…

Thankyou for stopping by! Alexandra xx

Welcome to Byloom and Hyde - bespoke distinctive and one-of-a-kind bags designed and created by myself in my old French studio here in South West rural France.

Since my time at art school studying textiles I have travelled a long and windy road which took me places I never planned to be. My desire was always to have my own design studio - and here I am ..

I love it here!

Creating fashion is a fascinating pleasure.. I am only satisfied once I produce something I am happy to wear or carry myself!

My design approach always involve a mix of some sort - whether weaving and stitching, or mixing tweed with leather..it's 'in the mix' that I find my designs. Spontaneity and instinct play a huge part in what I create
