Camhanaich Crafts
I've always loved being creative, learning new crafts and ways of making art. However my path took me in a different direction and I found myself studying for a degree in Natural Sciences and then an MSc in Psychology. However, I never lost the urge to create, and have since began exploring art and crafts in their many forms and am excited to share some of my creations here.
My shop name, Camhanaich, is a Scottish Gaelic word meaning 'early morning twilight'. With Scottish roots, and having spent a year studying in Scotland, I find myself drawn to the country. My logo features a wolverine and a hazelnut in front of a forest of birch trees. Each of these has a symbolic meaning: birch trees signify new beginnings, and so represent the beginning of a new, more creative chapter in my life. Hazelnuts in folklore represent wisdom. There is a beautiful tale of the Salmon of Wisdom, who lives in the well of Segais. Over the well grow hazel trees, whose nuts fall into the water and are eaten by the salmon, who thereby gains all of the wisdom held inside them. The wolverine is a fierce, independent creature, roaming the boreal forests, and really speaks to me as I forge my own way in the world.
