Inspired by Dia de Los Muertos, Magic and Nature!

I create art celebrates life and magic. Many of the pieces in my Etsy store are about Mexican day of the dead. In high school I studied Spanish and learned about Dia de los Muertos. Later in college I spent a summer in Mexico I visited a small town outside of Guadalajara that is well known for its crafts-Talaquepaque. I encountered stores full of handmade art about day of the dead. The art was created by local artisans out of papier mache. There were skeletons acting out day to day activities, ironing clothes, surfing, getting married and even grieving their dearly departed at the grave. Yet everything these skeletons did was with a sense of joy and humor! It was a powerful experience for me and very inspiring. I was moved by the emotions conveyed in each piece and enamored with the use of color. Ever since that experience I have sought to express the celebration of the life cycle in my day of the dead pieces.
I love the realm of the fairies and supernatural. The imagery and mystery of the tarot are intriguing.
I love bright colors! They make me feel happy! I enjoy creating art that is black light reactive. I was a child in the seventies and was very much in awe of the UV reactive posters of the time. I am thankful that I can produce my own version of the strange and psychedelic posters that I remember.
Nature is a popular theme in my art. I enjoy gardening and long walks on the shores of Lake Michigan as well hiking in the gem of Ohio- Hocking Hills.
