About

I make clay snakes and turtles!

For about 25 years we bred snakes and attended a lot of Reptile Expos. It was a huge amount of work but very fun! We met so many wonderful people during these shows. We mainly attended the National Reptile Breeders Expo in Florida and The Repticon shows through out the Southeastern US. We had over 400 snakes at one time. We did numerous educational programs with scout troops, church groups, and schools through the years. We tried to dispel the old myths about snakes and teach the true story of these misunderstood creatures. Hopefully we taught a lot of folks not to fear and kill these amazing animals ....hopefully we saved a few snakes through the years!

During the early years, I was always looking for snake jewelry but could only find silver and gold examples. Since one of the best features of snakes is their beautiful brilliant colors and patterns...I wanted colorful jewelry! A friend of ours introduced me to polymer clay and I started fiddling around with making colorful snake earrings, necklaces, and Christmas tree ornaments. That was back in 1996 or 1997.

I sold a bunch of my work at reptile shows through the years. We recently sold all of our "real snakes" but I have continued to make my jewelry any chance I get. I have been extremely busy over the last few years with the birth of 3 grandchildren and haven't had as much time to create with clay...but my clayroom is always ready for me and I sneak in there whenever I get a chance. With one more grandchild due soon, my clay time is limited but I hope to make a few new items every month. It's therapy for me.

Each of my pieces is a "one of a kind" item. No assembly line here! I hand craft every piece. No molds are ever used and I never paint any of it. The patterns are created by mixing and blending the clay. Then I bake the items in my oven. I have jokingly called it "Snake-N-Bake".

Thanks for visiting with me!

Thanks You for looking at my work! All of my snake art is made from polymer clay. I make wildly colored and patterned snakes as well as some that look pretty similar to the actual snake type. At one time we had approximately 400 non venomous snakes and have been keeping / breeding snakes for 20+ years ...doing educational programs along the way as well as doing reptile shows / expos. Snakes are beautiful creatures and although I could never match God's beautiful creation of their patterns and colors... I do enjoy trying. Each piece of my work is handmade, therefore, no two pieces will ever be exactly the same. Enjoy looking and please check back often. I will be listing more items as time allows. Have a blessed day!

Additional policies and FAQs
Thanks for your interest in my polymer clay wearable art!

Here are some basic guidelines for helping your jewelry last for a long time.
This jewelry is pretty durable but may need a little extra care compared to other traditional jewelry.

1. It is made totally of polymer clay and should not be allowed to "bang" on other items. It may chip or break if dropped onto a hard surface. Therefore my products are not suitable to be used as key chains, rings, or bracelets. They can be used for necklaces, earrings, Christmas tree ornaments, or even rear view mirror ornaments.

2. Small children are also not good candidates for wearing most of my jewelry. Of course, each child is different but please use your judgment before purchasing my items for a child.

3. Some items are more durable than others. My turtle shell items are definitely more durable than the snakes...simply because of their shape and their thickness.

4. If your jewelry gets dirty, just rinse with cool water and pat dry with paper towel or air dry. No jewelry cleaners please.

5. I don't recommend sleeping while wearing this jewelry. Some of the smaller pieces may be okay to wear while sleeping.... but definitely not the larger items, especially the larger snake necklace charms. They are the most delicate of all the items I make.

6. I use super glue to connect the metal “stems” into the clay. Occasionally the stem will come out of the clay. Don’t panic! You’re jewelry is not broken. Just take a dab of super glue and re-attach it.

With all of these instructions, you're probably scared to death to wear your jewelry... but don't be. I'm just making sure you're aware that these items are not invincible and should be cared for. I wear my jewelry nearly all the time and have no problems with breakage....but I'm just a "worry-wart" and want to make sure you are aware of all the possibilities.

Questions.... please ask! I'm always here to help. Just email me: tmabe [!at] atomic.net

Each item is individually handmade....not made on an assembly line...so your item is truly a "one of a kind". Wear it proudly!

Thanks again!
