From Sheep to Art

I make needle felted toys, characters, holiday ornaments, and original paintings. There is no guide or pattern for creatures that I make. Most of the creatures come from my imagination and creativity. A lot of times I might start out making one thing and It will turn into something completely different then what I originally planned.
I also paint in oils and draw in charcoal. Unlike most artist who do study after study drawing the same thing to make it look realistic in the final painting or drawing. Instead I just jump right into my piece. I am not trying to recreate reality. I am trying to make it art.
I have grown up with a love for art. My great-grandfather was a oil painter and my grandmother painted in watercolors. My great-grandpa paintings and my grandmothers watercolors are all over my house. My parents have always allowed artist to put up their stuff in the family restaurant that my parents own in the downstairs of our home.
I first started knitting several years ago at camp. Sitting around the campfire, my friends taught me how to knit. A few years later I taught myself how to crochet from a book.
At school I started my own knitting, crocheting sewing club. I helped beginner knitters and crocheters learn how to knit. I also helped more experienced members with their fiber problems. As a group we made one huge blanket (both knitting and crochet) with all different types of stitches and patterns for the charity Warm Up America. Even now I am still helping people learn how to knit and crochet through private lessons.
I had heard about needle felting before and had wanted to try my hand at it. In the workshop we made Santa Ornaments and mine turned out great. I wanted to build upon this new found skill. So I bought fiber and I bought kits to make them on my own. Now years later I am making my own patterns.
I had heard about Etsy a few years before from a friend of mine. She sold jewelry supplies and jewelry that she makes herself. At the time I was in college and I thought to myself that I was too busy with school and my knitting club, to start a business. Finally after I graduated I decided to start selling my art. I had a lot of fiber in my closet and I decided to make it into little critters and sell them on Etsy.

My Grandmother and Great Grandfather were both artist. My Grandmother painted watercolor landscapes and my Great Grandfather painted in both oil and water color. I think that love of art has come alive in me. I have loved art since I was little.
