What a wonderful artist. I love these cards made from her paintings, which are at once full of whimsy and very thought provoking. The cards themselves are perfect: nice, heavy paper, perfectly scored and folded, and the print job is super vibrant. Yay!

Got here in record time. Thanks for the free bookmark--I'll confess that I hate squirrels with a passion (despite needing cards featuring one in a ruff), but my partner thinks it's awesome.

These cards are brilliant. I love the style, the artist is very responsive to custom requests, and they shipped very quickly. Thank you so much!!
Squirrealism and Masks
Carollyne Yardley coined the term Squirrealism to describe her signature style of fine artwork using squirrel masks in paintings and photographs, to create strange, transgene characters, and creatures. The “mask” has become a symbol describing misfits, hiding behind animated personas, odd and beautifully unusual.
Through the meticulous and minute brushwork of pre-modernist oil painting traditions, Carollyne’s work incorporates allegory and surrealism to explore psychological truths and complexities about the human condition. Even without a human face, her paintings maintain the essence of a portrait, immediately conveying humour and personality — followed by budding uncertainty about the characters and the secrets* they keep.
She established a strong foundation in the technology industry as the founder, co-owner and creative director (1997-2010) of Star Global Advanced IT Corp. Ltd., a software application, and web development company that delivered visual communications, and custom web-based software to over 700 clients throughout North America. This experience left her with an enduring interest in observing first impressions and monitoring user experiences based on visual cues.
Carollyne Yardley has garnered all levels of press in Canada, featured in The Globe and Mail, The National Post, CTV News, CBC Radio, online weblogs, and the covers of several books and magazines.
She is represented by Winchester Galleries (Victoria, BC), and Fazakas Gallery (Vancouver, BC).
Carollyne Yardley is a visual artist based on the west coast of Canada. Carollyne Yardley's exquisite oil painting technique lends a certain authority to the absurd, allowing the serious and the silly to hover together on the same plane of existence. The "mask" has become a symbol describing misfits, hiding behind animated personas, odd and beautifully unusual. She is currently exploring character development through the repetition of imagery, brand development, identity, memes, pop culture, and absurdity. Artist Statement I am a visual artist and formerly a creative director, and my work is informed by both these disciplines. Through the meticulous and minute brushwork of pre-modernist oil painting traditions, my work incorporates allegory and surrealism to explore psychological truths and complexities about the human condition, and the secrets we keep.
