Metal and Grete
Metal and Grete focuses on creating handmade treasures to put a smile on your face.
If you like original, playful, handmade jewelry and gifts made with passion you are in the right spot.
In my shop you can find one-of-a-kind pieces and collections, statement pieces, and smaller items. What unites them all is a unique taste and a happy, easy-going feeling.
Since I was a little girl I have loved creating things. I wanted to study design and, especially, jewelry design but… I got stuck in the “getting a secure job” mentality. I ended up doing the safe thing and studying engineering and architecture. However, my love for jewelry lived on and I started to create pieces with the materials that I used to make architecture models, a special type of cardboard made with wood paste. I opened my first shop and called it Cartonbois.
I liked making jewelry with cardboard but I wanted to make pieces that could last forever. I started taking metalsmithing classes on the weekends in the nearby city of Vicenza, while working as an engineer during the week. Vicenza is a city with a long tradition in goldsmithing. I have great teachers there that continue to share with me their knowledge about traditional techniques.
I fell in love with metalsmithing right away and set up a little house lab in a corner of my living room in Trento (northern Italy). Here I share the place with my handsome, supportive husband who is willing to help me with anything and my cat Banana who enforces cleanliness by knocking over everything that I leave out.
I still have my day job as an engineer, but I keep following my dream to became a full-time jeweler by working every night and weekend at my corner bench.
I’m committed to giving great service to all my clients with special attention and dedication to a positive customer experience from first contact to delivery of your hand-made pieces.
When I’m not working at my day job or at my night job, you can find me either listening to podcasts, reading novels or the New York Times, watching Netflix, cuddling with my husband or my cat, or visiting modern art shows.
Take a look at my pieces! I’m sure you can find something the would strike your fancy:
If you follow the link to my site on the right you can visit my blog (www.metalandgrete.com) to find out more about the inspiration and the making process behind a sample of pieces. You can also see my other pieces that I have made for friends, family, and local customers.
