This time I bought this one for myself. These make great gifts, hand painted and very unique. I'll probably be buying more in the future, I love them!!!

About

Nature, science, and learning translated into art.

My shop was born when a mom asked for a set of the alphabet made of animals. My goal became to make that happen. It took a few years. Everything came together in 2012; then, my family moved to California.

I moved to the Bay Area, Redwood City specifically. This life change meant my shop had to grow and change. My surroundings play a large part in what I am doing creatively. Being settled and close to nature are important parts of my creative process. I now live close to incredible nature and do my best to make my living space home to native plants so, native bird and wildlife species can thrive.

Nature/science and learning are my two great passions that I love translating into art. My main focus from nature and science are animals. The way animals live and survive is fascinating. When I create art with an animal subject I enjoy finding the joyous or simple moments of life and sharing the tranquility and vulnerability of the creatures. When creating Animals in Alphabet I aim to represent each animal’s natural movement while manipulating them into the shape.

Animals in Alphabet is my constant. It is my favorite work I have made. I still nuture it, making sketches of new letters and find new ways to celebrate the letters I have.

The bird paintings on leaves is almost a collaboration with two women that inspire me. My mother and her sister, Karen and Teresa. When my mother visits we spend much of the time together birding. She and her sister spend most of their time birding at all the National Wildlife Refuges around the United States, follow their story on flickr. The documentaion of these explorations provides me with the reference needed to create my art.
From photographs one of the three of us have taken I paint a gouache painting of an animal, mostly birds, onto a leaf I have collected and pressed. These leaves represent the native flora and the animals the native fauna. Together in a piece of jewelry they celebrate the natural beauty that surrounds us.
