I absolutely love the charka pendant. It's exactly what I expected. Very well crafted. The seller was very responsive to my questions and she was very helpful. I will be recommending this to friends!

About

In Lak'ech Ala K'in

I once met a woman who made beautifully intricate wire wrapped crystal jewelry. I was always fascinated by the pieces she wore and made for others. At the time I was living and working on the East Coast, but hail from the Midwest. I would often make the drive home back and forth during the holidays and to visit friends and family. The route takes you through Herkimer, New York, home of the Herkimer Diamond. I’m sure I’m not the only crystal aficionado who looks forward to this stop whenever they take the I-90 through upstate New York. These beauties are captivating in their structure and appearance. I acquired a stunning one on my travels and had a strong desire for it to be made into a pendant so I could wear it as a necklace.

This woman whom I had met was wrapping jewelry at a small local festival I ended up attending last minute, so I asked if she could wrap my Herkimer. She assured me she could and would happily wrap the piece for me, although in retrospect it seems as though this Herkimer had other plans. I came back to her booth several times throughout the day to check on the progress of my piece. Each time I approached her, she had a different reason as to why she hadn’t wrapped it yet, saying she was working on other pieces. Finally, at the end of the day, when everyone was wrapping up I went back up to her booth. She handed me back the Herkimer, saying, “Sorry Cassie, this just doesn’t want to be wrapped by me. Every time I attempt to start wrapping it pops out and falls on the ground.” I was disheartened and frustrated. I vowed to myself that I would teach myself how to wire wrap it so I wouldn’t have to rely on someone else to do so. That night I looked up how to wire wrap a Herkimer Diamond on YouTube and found a video instructing folks specifically how to wrap a Herkimer Diamond. The interesting thing is that I’ve searched for this video again over and over to no avail; it no longer exists.

I look back and think that this is one of the greatest gifts anyone has ever given me in life, from both this woman and my Herkimer Diamond. I was so upset at the time I was unable to truly appreciate how wonderful it was to have the incentive to learn to wire wrap for myself. This has opened so many doors and new ways that I can work with crystals for healing myself and others. I’ve since wrapped hundreds and hundreds of crystals, but my Herkimer remains the only one I’ve wrapped at least 3 or 4 times. I will wear it wrapped for awhile, and then get a strong sense that it wants to be free again. This Herkimer Diamond is strong-willed with a free spirit, two qualities I am always aspiring toward.
