Recycled yarn is so very GREEN! Thanks!
Beauty out of Darkness
Cast On Castaway came into being because I became seriously chronically ill and I wanted a way to feel productive and bring some beauty and happiness into the world.
I am passionate about environmental conservation and I am so glad to be able to offer recycled yarn! You know those plain, boring sweaters at thrift stores that no one seems to buy? Maybe they have a small hole or are just horribly out of fashion. Sometimes, they are made out of really high quality material like cashmere or extra fine merino. I love saving those sweaters from their cruel fate! I have learned how to unravel the yarn from these sweaters, allowing me to offer it for sale so it can become something beautiful instead of languishing in the thrift store. I'm also pleased to be able to offer the very best materials at a small fraction of the cost that they retail for. New laceweight cashmere sells for around $40 for 400 yards. Despite the slightly labor-intensive process of unravelling a sweater, my prices are just a fraction of that.
My shop is still very new, but it has provided me with a lot of fun experiences, and I can't tell you how much it helps me to be productive despite my illness! I am always happy to answer questions, take custom orders, or look into international shipping. Every order brings a smile to my face. Thank you for reading!

Owner, Maker, Designer
I'm Ruby, owner, crafter, felter, and grand poobah of unravelling. I'm in my mid twenties and recently moved to Boulder, CO after graduating cum laude with a BA in English from the University of Oregon.
Please note: I am unable to offer ball winding service at this time. Sorry!
I have postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. Knitting and recycling help me feel productive. I can't stress how important that is! By purchasing, you are helping me to be able to keep knitting!
I have two goals in opening my shop--make enough money to pay for knitting supplies for myself, and make/provide things that will bring people happiness!
