Finally got my entire sloth trio listed. I can't wait to see where these fellas end up! I had a lot of fun creating these three. <3

Drew a trio of sleepy sloths last week. I've listed the first of the trio in the shop today with plans for the other two to follow in the next few days. Until next time, nap hard.

About

Paper Lace, Light and Intrigue

Hi, I'm Sam. I'm a History graduate from the University of Calgary with a flare for the creative. I live with my lovely boyfriend in Calgary, AB.

I've always been a creative person. My mom still has some drawings I did around the age of 4 of ladies with very questionable fashion sense. I still remember being amazed and excited as a kindergartener when my teacher ironed two pieces of waxed paper and crayon together. The result resembled something like a stained glass window. I remember it being one of the most beautiful things I had seen as a child. As I grew, art continued to be a large part of my life and I dabbled in many forms. Painting, pottery, figure drawing, and knitting left me desiring something else. I thought I found my calling in jewellery making, but it never really captivated my interest for very long.

I fell into papercutting almost by accident. I had just graduated from University and as luck would have it, my boyfriend's birthday was rapidly approaching. Having no real income at the time, I scrapped together what I could and headed to a local art store. I entered with the lofty goal of teaching myself how to papercut and left with a few pieces of scrapbooking paper and a craft knife. The first papercut I ever completed was of the Japanese Kaiju movie monster, Gamera. My boyfriend loved it, and I continued to cut.

Since that point, I've grown so much as an artist. I once worked solely from templates I would create in MSPAINT, now I am more comfortable just drawing out an idea on a piece of paper and cutting it out. The process of cutting out a lace like image from a single piece of paper using only an Exacto knife has not lost any of it's charm. I'm still just as excited now, almost 5 years after my very first papercut , every time I start a new piece and see the light behind the very first subtractive cut.

Having a creative community like Etsy as an outlet has been amazing. I've met so many amazing and talented people from all over the planet who continually inspire me and push me passed my creative limits.

Thanks so much, Etsy.
