These are beautiful but not for my skin tone, so I ended up exchanging them for the gold/garnet combo--which are perfect. They are the simple, beautiful earrings I've been looking for! Laura could not have been more accommodating. Thank you Laura!

Metaphors in Metal & Stone

My hobbies collided one afternoon as I gazed at one of my newly opened orchid flowers. Cattleyas are terribly ugly plants when not in bloom...twisted green leaves and roots all exposed. When in flower they become almost otherworldly, each one an absolute masterpiece. Light dawned on me....the cattleya was itself a metaphor for the jewelry shop I had always wanted to open. I wanted my pieces to be metaphors wrought in metal and stone, inspired and thoughtful wearable art. After years of creating for myself, family and friends Cattleya Designs was born.

And now my day usually begins with a dash to the sketch pad or computer followed by the inevitable morning arguments of my two teenage sons in the other part of the kitchen. Most of my pieces are sparked by a memory, dream or simple conversation, but each one is always personal in some regard. Between the initial sketch, gem selection and metal architecture, the engineering can take all day..sometimes two..if I'm working with a particularly challenging design, but it's well worth the perfectionism. It's amazing when it all comes together!

As a one woman show, on days I'm not creating, I'm busy curating, mailing or taking photos. Most importantly, I'm doing what I love and if I can pass on the thrill of wearing something that has personal significance than I'm doing something right!

Additional policies and FAQs
Custom or Semi-Custom Orders:
Requests for a change in hook from French to lever back or a change in length of chain can usually be accomodated on the same or next day of purchase. Please specify this with the "note to seller" option at checkout. A small fee will be charged for this service...usually $1.00 to $3.00. You can contact me for an exact quote. Any semi-custom orders can still be refunded after purchase.

I LOVE to do custom design. Contact me with thoughts on what you'd like and I would be happy to give you a quote. Custom orders might take a little longer to complete, especially if I have to special order supplies, but I will give an approximate ship date with my quoted price when you initially contact me. Unfortunately, special orders cannot be returned.
