About

Drawing, Beading and Bookbinding. Detailed Simplicity Inspired by Nature.

My name is Carol, and I am the owner and artist behind CCreech Studio here in Ann Arbor, MI.

As a child, I was always "making something." I spent hours diligently copying animal and nature note cards to learn how to draw. I made little purses with flaps and buttons for myself and bookmarks carefully "laminated" with tape and finished with yarn tassels as gifts for my family and once created an entire kitchen out of cardboard shoe boxes. With buttons, beads, needle and thread, scraps of cloth, or paper and pencils, I could always find something to do!

I continued creating, especially drawing, as I grew up. My first big "ah ha!" moment in my artistic development happened here in Ann Arbor. During graduate school for library science, I discovered a wonderful book at a remainder shop titled "Pen & Ink Techniques" by Frank Lohan. I purchased a fine point Rotring sketch pen and started copying drawings from the book. It was like coming home! I couldn't believe how much I loved drawing in pen and ink, and I couldn't get enough of it. Pen and ink remains one of my very favorite media.

Later, I learned about an entire organization dedicated to natural science illustration called The Guild of Natural Science Illustration (GNSI) and also found the American Society of Botanical Artists (ASBA). Joining these two organizations and continuing to learn put me solidly on the path to focusing on botanical and nature art in my work.

After years of two-dimensional artwork and starting a family which reduced the amount of time I had for focused drawing, I found myself craving texture and three-dimensions. I found my way back to beading and renewed my interest in beautiful, natural semiprecious gemstones. Such gorgeous patterns, shapes and colors! I started creating beaded leather wrap bracelets and opened my Etsy shop with those. I sold one on my first day - very encouraging!

My shop was born out of the bracelets, but I soon added more items that are practical as well as beautiful, including hand-bound artist journals using fine art papers, jotter journal sets featuring prints of my original botanical and nature artwork, and pendants and macramé bookmarks that highlight the gorgeous natural history found in the stones I use.

My goal is to provide you with a high-quality piece made by my own hands and hope that you enjoy the detailed and durable simplicity of each creation.
