Turning pallets into better versions of themselves

Welcome to Cedar Street Wood Works! This is something I’ve had in the works for the last 8 months and after a lot of sweat and saw dust, Im happy to finally be opening. This has quickly turned into a passion for me as I don’t stop thinking about it. Im constantly trying to think of a new project idea or looking around all different ares for inspiration.

We have a small staff here that includes my mom (The Painter), my dad ( The Carpenter) my dog Chloe (The Wood Gatherer) and myself. We make sure anything we do, we do it right and have fun.

We currently are working off of our front porch which is about 5x5, but we recently purchased a shed that we will be fixing up for all future projects.

The first thing I do is collect the pallets, which can sometimes be the most time consuming step. I search throughout the city, on craigslist, and I have a few people who are kind enough to drop some off for me. The boards are then pried off with my homemade steel “Pallet Buster”. After all boards are off, the nails are removed and I sort them based off their size. The last step before the wood is ready to use is to sand and clean to make sure it is safe for all homes.

Some of these shipping pallets have been around the world and carried who knows what on them. The wood is full of inherent character, blemishes, holes, and small cracks. which are not considered defects but unique to each piece that gives our furniture warm character. There are no two pieces that are ever exactly alike which makes them a one of a kind piece built especially for you. Thanks for helping the environment and enjoy your handcrafted piece of history.
