Taking Time Out for Grandchildren
I will be limiting production of my pottery for the next 12-24 months because I'm caring for young grandchildren. Please consider checking back with me after January 2016.
I began working with clay in Berkeley, California in 1973, and that is when my dream of having a working pottery studio began. For many years, I taught school and raised a family while taking occasional pottery classes.
My formal art training began in 2004 at Haywood Community College’s wonderful Professional Craft Program in Clyde, North Carolina. I designed my backyard pottery studio as graduation neared in 2006, and I officially opened Centerpoint Studios in January 2007. I feel grateful every time I walk out to the studio because my love of my craft continues to be unwavering.
Making pots at the potter’s wheel has always been the most gratifying part of my work. When I began my studies at HCC, that was just about all I wanted to do. When it came time to glaze a pot, I often joked about this being when I would ruin a lovely pot. Opening a kiln was usually disappointing for me because my glazes just did not do what I wanted them to do. But I loved the process of making the pots and as that became second-nature for me, I began exploring the world of glazes.
I do all of my own glaze testing & mixing in the studio. Most recently, I have settled on two glaze processes for my functional work: Yuba and Shino. I design mostly tableware, vases, and lamps.
I began taking classes in ikebana floral arranging in 2011. My ikebana vases and containers are available in a wide range of other glazes, in addition to the Yuba & Shino lines.
