This is a wonderful planter, exactly as pictured. The dish below the planter is very cute but extremely shallow, be careful when watering.

About

Functional pottery with an appreciation of modern design and material reference.

I started selling my pottery as CGCERAMICS on Etsy in 2009 as a way to push myself toward something more deliberate with my ceramic explorations. I began wheel-throwing while working on my BFA, in 2002, and have been engaged with the process and poetic parallels it leads me to consider ever since.

My work juxtaposes clean, simple lines with the vulnerabliity of form and tactile surfaces that reflect my admiration Mid-Century Modern, Scandinavian and Japanese design aesthetics. Each unique, wheel-thrown piece is intended for daily use and fired to temperatures that make it durable and watertight.

Since 2002, I have been making functional, wheel-thrown pottery and began pursuing pottery as a career in 2013. All of the work in my shop is designed and created in my home studio, in Bellevue, Ky (just over the river from Cincinnati, Ohio).

Banner excerpt from Philip Rawson’s book, “Ceramics” (page 1)
“Functionalism assesses works of art by what each critic takes to be their success in reflecting their function; but it cannot explain the enormous number of variations in shape among pots fulfilling very closely similar functions; nor can it explain the imponderable appeal that one pot can exercise……. Pure aestheticism, on the other hand, concentrates on the ‘beauty’ or ‘expression’ of a pot without any regard for its function, and is equally at a loss to explain the whole nature of humanity’s pottery which is unequivocally utilitarian whilst also being expressive.”
