Announcement    Welcome to my studio! Here you will find prints of my original paintings that are painted and sewn with love.

Guiding a painting through the sewing machine connects me to past generations who created quilts to warm their loved ones. I infuse that same love and intention of warmth into my paintings.

My imagined landscapes blend buildings and natural elements. I use paint and thread to create a world of color and texture that is grounded in hope.

Wishing you an inspired and beautiful day!

About

Original Paintings to Inspire Peace and Balance

I was recently interviewed by Voyage Chicago, so if you'd like to learn more about my story, please check it out.

http://voyagechicago.com/interview/meet-chai-wolfman-chai-wolfman-studio-northwest-side/

I am currently working on four ongoing series of paintings. Prints from the first three series can be found in my shop.

1) In my series of imagined landscapes, I’m creating worlds that are colorful and textured and explore themes of community, connection, and hope.

2) My meditation series features a figure who could be any human being, sitting in meditation and centering on the heart. This meditation buddy is found in various environments, but the central theme here is that we all have the ability to focus inward and love ourselves -- and when we do, it can have a positive affect in the world.

3) I save all of my painting scraps from cutting and tearing paintings on paper and I use them in my quilt-inspired series. I am inspired by the history of crazy quilts and the idea of making something new from the old. There is a history of previous paintings in each crazy quilt-inspired painting, while new images and feelings emerge. People often think these are fabric collages, but all of these works are paintings on paper that are sewn together. I also sew paintings together in traditional quilt patterns that have symbolism and meaning to me, like the log cabin and north star patterns.

4) My fourth series is called The Found Painting Project, where I make small 3x4 inch paintings and hang them on trees for people to discover and take home. My hope is that when someone happens upon an original painting they’ll receive a small burst of joy, surprise, inspiration, or love — some positive experience. I also hope to encourage people to notice their surroundings, investigate new spaces, and see their environment in a new way. My studio practice is focused on painting and sewing both paper and canvas. I’m interested in the ways we feel connected to our surroundings and enjoy creating images that offer a sense of community, connection, and hope.
