Updates

I've got a new temporary studio buddy! X-Ray's regular food-provider has some frustrating housing issues to deal with, so we're watching him for a month or so. He's pretty chill so far, I gave him some cat toys to play with.

About

new // old

Chapman Handmade is named after my grandmother. She taught me how to sew, and she is still the best person I've known.

I learned how to sew when I was little, making doll clothes and pillows from my grandma's scrap pile. I started sewing again after college. I bought so much beautiful fabric, more than I could even use. I started thinking more about the origins of quiltmaking, when women repurposed clothes and flour sacks and anything they could find to make quilts. And I started thinking more about how much waste is involved in the life cycle of clothes.

When I moved across the country last year, I decided to start over. I sold most of my fabric to people who had the time to actually use it, and I started buying clothes in thrift stores. Now that's what everything in my shop is made from. I buy whatever I can find that's made from natural fibers and has a good color or pattern. I take what I find, tear it apart, and make it into something that might see more use.

Returns and exchanges
I run an extremely small operation, so refunds are really only available if the item is extremely different than what was pictured/you expected. I work extremely hard to make sure you have no reason to ask for a refund.

Basically, for the most part, there's no refunds, however, if you are very unhappy with what you got, please send me a message and I will do my absolute best to figure out a resolution that will work for both of us.
Payment
I would rather give everything away, but I need to pay rent in cash and not quilts, so I would prefer that you pay me after ordering so I can send you your cool thing and then give your money to my landlord. (Or realistically, the student loan people.)

Once your payment has cleared, I'll send out your purchase in 1-2 days. If for some reason your payment hasn't cleared after 3 days, I'll send you a message, but if it hasn't cleared after a week, I may have to cancel your order. Please just check in with me early on if you think there may be a delay in payment.
Shipping
I ship things as quickly as I can, which means within 1-2 days. If you're in a hurry to get something, just include a note when you buy & I'll do my best to ship out your purchase ASAP.
Additional policies and FAQs
Custom orders are 100% welcome. Because I work with secondhand material, availability of specific materials & timeframes for finishing a custom order are not necessarily guaranteed. If you have something special in mind, please send me a message!
